Benchmark domestic equity indices today ended with modest gains for the second straight session. The 30-share index at Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, advanced 224 points, almost 0.3 percent, to close at 76,724. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 added 37 points, or 0.16 percent, to settle at 23,213. The broader market indices at BSE ended in positive territory. The Mid-Cap index added 0.11 percent and the Small-Cap index increased over 0.3 percent.
In the Sensex index, 18 out of 30 companies logged gains. Among the top gainers, Zomato increased over 4.3 percent, NTPC surged over 3.3 percent, and PowerGrid advanced around three percent. Meanwhile, in the top laggards, Mahindra and Mahindra fell over 2.9 percent, Bajaj Financial Services lost over 2.2 percent, and Bajaj Finance dropped 2.16 percent. In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 16 out of 20 sectors ended in positive territory. Among top gainers, Utilities advanced over 2.4 percent, Power gained more than 1.7 percent, and Realty added over one and half percent. Conversely, in the top laggards, Healthcare shed 1.2 percent, Auto dropped over half percent, and Oil and Gas fell 0.28 percent. The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,150 companies advanced and 1,806 declined while 108 remain unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 24 companies hit their 52 week high while 85 hit their 52 week low.
