Domestic market in positive territory for second consecutive session

Benchmark domestic equity indices today extended gains for the second consecutive session. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, surged 631 points, or 0.83 percent, to close at 76,533. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 gained 206 points, or 0.9 percent, to settle at 23,163. The broader market indices at BSE rebounded today. The Mid-Cap index rose over two and a half percent and the Small-Cap index soared over 3.2 percent.
In the Sensex index, 23 out of 30 companies logged gains. Among the top gainers, Zomato surged over 6.7 percent, Tata Motors advanced almost 3.3 percent, and Infosys gained over 2.8 percent. Meanwhile, among the top laggards, ITC Hotels plummeted five percent, Bharti Airtel as well as Maruti, both shed over 1.1 percent each, and Asian Paint dropped over 0.8 percent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 20 out of 21 sectors ended in positive territory, barring FMCG which shed 0.3 percent. Among top gainers, Realty gained 3.1 percent, Industrials added over 2.9 percent, and Capital Goods increased 2.7 percent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,978 companies advanced 1,011 declined while 93 remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 14 companies hit their 52-week high while 98 hit their 52-week low.
