Doctors Protest against Kolkata Rape and Murder

Doctors and medical students from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and several other hospitals in the national capital staged protests today against the alleged rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata. They are demanding justice in the matter.

In the evening, the Resident Doctors’ Association also held a candle march. Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the Centre to formulate a national law to ensure the safety of doctors in hospitals. They also called for mandatory security measures, such as the installation of CCTV cameras and the deployment of security personnel, as initial steps to declare hospitals as safe zones.

The IMA has announced a 24-hour withdrawal of all services by modern medicine doctors across the country starting tomorrow at 6 in the morning, regardless of sector or place of work. During this period, only casualty and emergency units will remain operational, while outpatient departments and elective surgeries will be suspended.
