DGCA adopts guidelines for environmental protection developed by ICAO to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: Govt in RS

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has adopted guidelines for environmental protection developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to promote sustainable aviation practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector. Minister of State for the Ministry of Civil Aviation Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh informed this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. The Minister stated that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has constituted a Bio-Aviation Turbine Fuel Programme Committee to promote the use of clean fuels and achieve the decarbonization in the aviation sector. He also informed that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has advised airports to work towards achieving 'Carbon Neutrality' and 'Net Zero' and adopt carbon mitigation measures. The Minister said, the Airports Authority of India has taken initiatives to reduce energy intensity and optimize airspace utilization for CO2 emission reduction. To comply with ICAO's goals, India will implement the Carbon Offsetting Reduction Scheme for International Aviation from 2027.
