Depression Forms Over Southwest Bay of Bengal, Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department Issues Weather Update

A Depression has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal which intensified from a low pressure area. Sri Lanka’s Meteorological Department has said that the Depression was located 290 km to southeast of Batticaloa and 410 km of Trincomalee at around 11.30 p.m of last night. The system is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression during next 12 hours and move very closer to the east coast of the island. Issuing a warning, the department added that very heavy showers above 200 mm are likely at some places in various parts of the island. In addition strong winds are also expected in eastern part of the island.
