Denmark's government yesterday said that it would put legal limitations in order to stop the demonstrations involving the burning Quran or other religious texts.
The move came after receiving global condemnation over protests involving burnings and desecrations of the Quran during rallies in Denmark and Sweden. In a statement, the Danish foreign ministry said whilst protecting freedom of expression is crucial, such protests benefit extremists and pose a security threat. Widespread protests have also been organized in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Morocco, Qatar, and Yemen in response to the public burnings of the Quran.
