National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued notices to Delhi Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Police over the media reports mentioning 23 child labourers, including nine girls and 14 boys were rescued from factories in the North-West District of National Capital Delhi. NHRC has asked for reports within the two weeks.
The commission also directed to District Magistrate, DM of North West Delhi to submit a report of action taken as per provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, especially steps taken for children rehabilitation and reunion with their respective families. NHRC has also asked for a report on legal actions taken by the DM.
NHRC also directed for a survey of the NCT of Delhi to know the industrial units employing child labourers. The commission took suo motu cognizance on media reports. The media reports mentioned that children were brought to Delhi from nearby states and were working in various factories.
