Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will flag off over one thousand GPS-enabled water tankers today from the Nirankari ground in Burari in a major step to combat the worsening water crisis in the city.
These tankers will be deployed across the city, especially in the areas facing acute water shortages or where a piped supply is not feasible.
Water Minister in the Delhi government, Parvesh Verma, said that the government is working with complete dedication to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of water for all. He added that the Delhi government will do whatever it takes to free Delhi from the water crisis.
The initiative is part of the water department’s broader strategy to modernise the city’s water distribution system. It also includes strict monitoring of water theft, wastage and irregular distribution.
The command centre will have access to complete real-time data, including the tankers’ location, delivery timings and movement speed.
