Prez Murmu and PM of Mauritius jointly e-inaugurateds14 small Development India-assisted Projects

India and Mauritius have decided to further strengthen their bilateral relationship in sectors including Financial Services, Civil Services, Taxation, and Investigating Agencies by signing four MoUs. A delegation-level talks was held between India and Mauritius today in the National Assembly of Mauritius. The meeting was held in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. During the meeting, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth jointly e-inaugurated 14 small Development India-assisted Projects. Both the leaders also e-unveiled of foundation stone for the New Forensic Science Laboratory funded by India.

Earlier, on the third and last day of her official visit, President Droupadi Murmu visited the Aapravasi Ghat and the Intercontinental Slavery Museum. Our correspondent reports that the Ghat holds a significant importance in the history of Mauritius.

This Ghat is located in Port Louis and this was an immigration depot built in 1849 to receive indentured labourers from India and several other African and Asian countries. These labourers used to work in the island’s sugar estates. The site was declared a national monument in 1987 and was renamed from immigration Depot to Aapravasi Ghat. The Intercontinental Slavery Museum commemorates the contributions of hundreds of thousands of African and Asian slaves to the Mauritian colonial economy and society. During her visit, President Murmu continuously highlighted the importance and contributions made by the indentured labourers in the economic upliftment of Mauritius. President Droupadi Murmu will also visit Ganga Talao. This Talao holds a special cultural, geological, natural, religious and spiritual significance in the lives of Mauritians, especially among the Hindu community. During the holy week of Maha Shivratri, nearly four lakh pilgrims from different countries visit Ganga Talao to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
