Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reiterated that the government is working to reduce defence imports by promoting self-reliance in the defence sector. He said that the country is witnessing innovation, technology development, and an increased pace of research and development. Speaking during the third edition of the Indian Navy’s Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, Swavlamban – 2024, today, the Minister highlighted the need for equal contribution from the public sector and the private sector in the defence. He said the government has facilitated the private sector to build a robust defence industrial ecosystem by relaxing norms. He also lauded the performance of Defence Public Sector Units.
The third edition of the Indian Navy’s Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, Swavlamban – 2024, culminated today. Swavlamban – 2024 was aimed at promoting the innovation and indigenisation endeavours of the Indian Navy. Over 115 companies and start-ups participated in Swavlamban 2024, showcasing products of niche technologies.
Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti said that start-ups and MSMEs are discovering many new things. He noted that in the exhibition, many of the products are those for which contracts have been signed.
At the exhibition, a company from Telangana showcased compact drones for operation at sea. Talking to Akashvani News, Jogarao Bommana said this drone is equipped with a thermal camera with AI capabilities. He said it is designed to float on seawater for more than 24 hours.
