Former President Ram Nath Kovind today said that Delhi Leaders' Declaration gives special importance to climate change and its mitigation. Addressing the third International Climate Summit in New Delhi, Mr Kovind said that our Planet has been facing unprecedented environmental challenges, rising temperatures, melting glaciers, extreme weather events, and loss of biodiversity threatening the very fabric of life on earth. He said, the world can not afford to be complacent but must act collectively and swiftly in view of the changing climate. Mr Kovind further added that India has made significant strides in mitigating climate change.

Participating in the event, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government, Ajay Kumar Sood said that climate change is a serious threat to the planet and there is need to take immediate action to reduce greenhouse gas emission. Mr Sood said that to reduce global warming, renewable energy will play a major role. He added that India will achieve the target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, which was committed in the COP26 summit. Talking about Green Hygrogen, Mr Sood said, green hydrogen is a new player in which not only India and but many other countries are engaged. He said, Green Hydrogen is not only important for mitigating climate change, but will help India's economy by reducing the oil import bill.
