In Pakistan, the death toll has risen to 45, with 20 others injured, after gunmen opened fire on passenger vehicles in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province yesterday. The district borders Afghanistan. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the casualties. Officials from the district police and hospitals reported that the victims included security personnel, women, and children. They also warned that the death toll may rise.

The police have launched an operation to track down the assailants, but no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
