Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday (6th December 2023) that the crime rate has decreased significantly and conviction rates increased more than 100 per cent due to improved law and order situation in the state.
Briefing media in Guwahati on Wednesday (6th December 2023), the Chief Minister said, the number of cognisable offences in Assam dipped by 48.26 per cent to nearly 69,000 cases in 2022 compared to 1,33,239 cases in 2021 and 56,202 and conviction rates increased close to 16 per cent this year up to October, compared to 6.13 per cent in 2021.
Mr Sarma informed that more than fifty-one per cent drop has been also witnessed in crime rates against women and children, reflecting the state government’s commitment to tackle crime through several reforms in policing.
