The Government has formed a Core Committee to oversee Implementation of One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) to facilitate academic and Research and Development institutions including universities, colleges, and research organizations in the country.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Subhas Sarkar said that One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), is an initiative of Government of India aims to acquire national licenses for e-journal/ database subscriptions from most of the prominent STEM (Science,Technology, Engineering, and Math) and social sciences publishers and database providers by combining multiple institutional and enabling consortia-based subscriptions in a phase manner. As per information provided by Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, it is estimated through a survey that total expenditure by Government in the year 2022on journal subscriptions was approximate 995 Crore rupees.
