Congress Delegation Raises Modi’s Remarks with EC; Objects BJP’s Unopposed Win

A Congress delegation today knocked the door of the Election Commission in connection with the alleged remarks of senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi against a particular community during an election rally in Rajasthan. A party delegation led by senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi met the Commission in New Delhi and demanded action against him saying that his remarks are in violation of Model Code of Conduct. Talking to media after the meeting, Mr Singhvi said that the party also filed a complaint for putting up the  pictures of the ruling party in many places including Gujarat, which only talks about religion. He added that 17 complaints have been filed by the Congress with poll panel.

The Congress also objected to the unopposed election of BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal from Surat Lok Sabha seat. Mr Singhvi said, the Congress has raised the issue with the Commission highlighting that level playing filed was not provided during the election. He demanded the Commission to postpone the election and announce a fresh date.

Eight candidates including BSP candidate Pyarelal Bharati and other independent candidates withdrew their nominations today. The nomination of Congress Candidate Nilesh Kumbhani was rejected yesterday over the proposers’ fake signatures.
