Congress Delegation, Led by Abhishek Manu Singhvi & Salman Khursheed, Holds Talks with Election Commission Amid Lok Sabha Election 2024 Counting
Amid counting of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, a delegation of Congress comprising Senior Party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Salman Khursheed met the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi. Briefing the media after the meeting, Mr. Singhvi said that he came to know through party’s workers that counting data is not updating timely on the commission’s website after 2.30 PM. Congress also raised another issue that there was no update in counting figures based on the parliamentary constituency. Mr. Singhvi said that ECI clarified that the data is being updated as it is being received from the counting centers. The commission also assured Mr. Singhvi that data will be updated timely without delay.
As per the ECI sources, the commission replied to the Congress delegation that the counting is conducted as per Rule 60 of the Conduct of Election Rules at the designated counting centres. It added that this is happening in the presence of candidates, agents, micro observers and observers. The Commission said that there is no report from any counting centre otherwise, to the contrary.
ECI highlighted, in Assembly elections, rounds pertaining to that assembly constituency and hence are declared and reflected on the ECI results portal. For Parliamentary Constituencies, the counting happens in the assembly segments falling in the particular Parliamentary Constituencies.
The Commission said, that different Assembly constituency segments of the Parliamentary Constituencies have different numbers of rounds and they run at different speeds. The commission has also sent a written reply to the congress in this matter.
