Cold Wave, Dense Fog Disrupts Transport in North India; 25 Trains, 50 Flights Delayed

A cold wave has gripped all of North India, with dense fog being witnessed in the mornings. Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during morning and night hours in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Jharkhand during the next 3-4 days. The India Meteorological Department has forecast cold day conditions in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh tomorrow. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh tomorrow. The minimum temperatures over Northwest, Central, and Eastern parts of the country are expected to fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next 2 days.

Due to dense fog conditions, the movement of several trains and flights was affected in the northern region of the country. Around 25 Delhi-bound trains have been delayed by up to five to six hours. Meanwhile, around 50 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi were delayed due to fog. However, no flights were cancelled. Delhi International Airport Limited said in a statement that low visibility procedures were in progress at Delhi airport. Passengers were requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.
