Cold wave conditions likely to continue over northwest, central India in next 2-3 days: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cold wave conditions to likely continue over Northwest and Central India during the next 2 to 3 days and abate thereafter. According to the IMD, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions will prevail over parts of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the next two days. In East India, these conditions will also prevail over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand till tomorrow. Talking to media, IMD scientist Dr Soma Sen Roy said that the sudden dip in temperatures was due to the western disturbance while there was a 4 to 5 degrees sudden drop.

Meanwhile, the weather agency has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala today. Heavy rainfall is expected over Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands today. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the country.
