Coconut cultivation area increases by 4900 hectares in Gujarat

In Gujarat, the coconut cultivation area has increased by 4900 hectares in the last decade. On World Coconut Day, the State Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel said there has been a consistent rise in the production and cultivation of Coconut in Gujarat. The state’s annual production of coconuts is more than 23.60 crore units. He said the state government has allocated Rs. 438 lakhs for the ‘Gujarat Coconut Development Programme’, in the current budget.

 

The minister said the farmers producing coconuts also get assistance up to Rs. 42,500 from the state government. He also added that 33 percent of the coconut production is exported from Gujarat to various states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh
