The government has said that all India Coal Production in 2022-23 stood at over 893 million tonne in comparison to over 565 million tonne in 2013-14 with a growth of about 58 percent. Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He said, over the years major leap has been witnessed in coal production.
Mr Joshi said, as per the current import policy, coal is under Open General License and consumers are free to import coal from the source of their choice. He said, there is no shortage of coal in the country and most of the requirement of coal in the country is met through indigenous production.
