The turtle nesting season usually begins in December and ends in March. The olive ridley turtles along Chennai’s Coast have been marred by their skeletons from Napier Bridge to Kovalam for at least 200 km. The reason for that is said to be the use of some nets which are used by trawlers and gill net boats. Sighting of turtle nests and collection of eggs along the city coast was delayed this season. Since the beginning of this month, 40 nests and 4100 eggs have been identified and collected.
