Campaigning ends for byelections to seven assembly seats across six states

In Uttar Pradesh, the poll campaigning for the Ghosi by-election in Mau district ended yesterday. All eyes are on this seat where voting will be held tomorrow.

The by-election on Ghosi seat of Mau district in Uttar Pradesh is considered as first electoral showdown between the BJP led NDA and a congress led I.N.D.I.A. alliance where leaders of both sides put all efforts to garner support for their candidates. More than two dozen ministers of the state government and prominent leaders of BJP including CM Yogi Adityanath campaigned for the BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan who recently switched sides from Samajwadi Party to BJP. The elections are being held after he resigned from the seat as Samajwadi Party MLA and now contesting on BJP ticket. This is a litmus test of Om Prakash Rajbhar led Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party also who joined hands of NDA after supporting Samajwadi party in the previous assembly elections in 2022.

On the other hand, The Congress and the Left parties have not only extended support to the Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh but also campaigned for him, in accordance with the spirit of the new Opposition togetherness ahead of next year's general election. This time Akhilesh Yadav the Samajwadi party chief also campaigned for the opposition candidate. Interestingly Bahujan Samaj party has not fielded any candidate on this seat.
