In Delhi, BJP MLA from Rohini seat Vijender Gupta was today elected as speaker of the newly constituted assembly. Mr Gupta was elected unanimously on the first day of the newly constituted Delhi assembly session. Newly elected MLAs also took oath. The assembly welcomed its newly elected members with beautiful flowers and lively decorations. Pro-tem speaker Arvinder Singh Lovely administered the oath to the newly elected members including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet colleagues as well as AAP MLAs.
The MLAs took oaths in different languages including Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit and Maithili. On the very first day of the session, the house witnessed noisy scenes. Minutes after the election of the speaker, the Opposition Aam Aadmi Party tried to raise the alleged removal of the portraits of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the chamber of the Chief Minister. Later, BJP rejected the allegations and released the pictures of the chambers of Delhi Chief Minister and all the city ministers where portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be seen on the walls.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta called it AAP’s tactic to deviate the focus from their corruption and misdeeds.
Delhi speaker Vijender Gupta said that the house will be run according to the rules and urged the opposition to participate in the discussion for the welfare of the people.
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena will address the House tomorrow. The CAG reports on the functioning of the previous government will also be presented on the same day. The three-day session will continue till the 27th of this month.
