Visitors thronged the Mahindra stall at the BYD Motor Show held at the BMICH hall in Colombo. The Indian auto company showcased three of its popular cars as Sri Lanka anticipates the lifting of restrictions on car imports. The motor show is being held until the 8th of December, where several auto companies have displayed their vehicles. Passenger car imports were suspended on the island in 2021 due to economic concerns triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown. As the severe economic crisis continued to persist, authorities decided to extend the restrictions on vehicle imports. Meanwhile, in June this year, the government announced a plan to gradually lift the restrictions by early 2025. However, the details of the relaxation of restrictions are yet to be announced.
