With this, India now have 19 Paris-bound track and field athletes and the list includes defending javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra among others.
At Tokyo 2020 Olympic the Indian contingent was made up of 124 athletes, the largest that the country had sent to the Games. India also won seven medals, their biggest haul in a single Olympics – including Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal in the men’s javelin throw.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, India will expect more athletes to qualify and of course, increase the Tokyo Olympics medal haul. Wishing all the best to all the players working to be selected and perform well.

India’s General Elections have attracted global attention once again as the Election Commission of India has invited 75 international visitors from Election Management Bodies of 23 countries to watch the world’s largest elections unfold. This exercise is a first in terms of scale and magnitude of participation. The invited delegates represent 23 countries namely – Bhutan, Mongolia, Australia, Madagascar, Fiji, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Moldova, Tunisia, Seychelles, Cambodia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Chile, Uzbekistan, Maldives, Papua New Guinea and Namibia. Along with these 23 nations, members from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, and media teams from Bhutan and Israel will also participate. The contribution of the Indian electoral space and work done by the Election Commission of India, holds a significant portion of the world democratic space. In terms of process and capacity it generates, what can be legitimately called, ‘democratic surpluses’ is of a huge significance in the otherwise growing concerns of shrinkage of or decline of democratic spaces worldwide.

भारत की चुनावी प्रक्रिया में 970 मिलियन पात्र मतदाताओं का देश भर में 1 मिलियन से अधिक मतदान केंद्रों पर 15 मिलियन से अधिक मतदान कर्मियों द्वारा स्वागत किए जाने की उम्मीद है। देश के मतदाताओं की विविधता को मतदान केंद्रों पर आने वाले प्रतिनिधियों द्वारा इसकी पूर्ण अभिव्यक्ति में देखा जा सकता है।
Meanwhile, the delegates were briefed on various aspects of Indian General Elections 2024, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), IT initiatives, and the role of media and social media. They will split into groups to visit six states-Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh-to observe polling and related preparedness in different constituencies. The program will conclude on May 9, 2024. The ongoing Lok Sabha elections that began on April 19 and is being conducted in seven phases will conclude on June 1 with counting of votes scheduled for June 4.

Assam’s wildlife conservationist, Dr. Purnima Devi Barman has been conferred the Whitley Gold Award for this year. The award has been given to Ms. Barman for her incredible efforts for the conservation of Greater Adjutant Stork, locally known as Hargila in Assamese.
“Purnima Devi Barman, a wildlife biologist from Assam, has been conferred the Whitley Gold Award for her exemplary conservation efforts benefiting the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork, locally known as Hargila and its habitat. This accolade, often referred to as the ‘Green Oscar’, highlights her remarkable contributions to wildlife conservation and underscores the importance of grassroots efforts in safeguarding biodiversity. Her intervention became crucial as the population of Hargila dwindled to a mere 450 birds in Northeast India. Through her pioneering efforts, she galvanized local communities, particularly women, to safeguard nests and protect the storks’ habitat. “Environmental challenges are huge in every sphere and the human world is paying a heavy price for it as top notch facilities of the world have increased numerous times which in return pur pressure on earth. To highlight the responsibility of the citizens, the Trichy district administration has introduced a new mobile application for issuing pollution under control certificate to vehicles. In order to curtail the violations and ensure genuine pollution testing, a mobile application PUCC 2.0 version has been introduced. All the licensed pollution testing centres have been asked to use the new application. The Centres have been using the application provided by the manufacturer of smoke meters. The new guidelines have been implemented from today. The advisory comes in the wake of violations found during the inspections by road transport officers and motor vehicles inspectors across the State at the pollution testing centres in their jurisdiction on 13th of last month. From CHENNAI we are now moving to Kolkata where everyone is gearing up to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Dev Rabindranath Tagore day after tomorrow.
“Rabindra Jayanti is an annual cultural event celebrated on the 25th day of Baisakh of the Bengali calendar to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great poet and writer of Bengal Rabindranath Tagore. This year the day falls on 8th of May. The centre of attraction will be the cultural events organised by Rabindra Bharati University at Jorasanko Thakurbari, the birthplace of the Nobel Laureate. The house was built in the 18th century in Jorasanko in north Kolkata where he spent a substantial part of his life and breathed his last. It has been restored to reflect the way the household looked when the Tagore family lived in it and currently serves as a Tagore museum, offering details about the history of the Tagore family. A light and sound show is held here in the evenings. The Rabindra Bharati Museum has a wide-ranging collection. Galleries are devoted to the leading figures of the 19th century Bengal Renaissance, including that of Rabindranath Tagore. A gallery displays artworks from the Bengal School of Art while another depicts portraits and paintings of the Tagore house mainly by the Anglo-Indian school. The latter is called the Western Art Gallery. There are also galleries devoted to Rabindranath, showing his life, works and ideas. Benchmark equity indices ended flat today in a choppy trading session. The BSE Sensex rose by 17 points or 0.02 percent to close at 73,896 points, while the NSE Nifty fell by 33 points or 0.15 percent to settle at 22,443 points. Domestic equity benchmarks closed on a lackluster note due to ongoing concerns about overvaluation in the absence of new positive catalysts and amidst mixed Q4 earnings reports. In the forex market, the rupee ended at 83 rupees and 50 paise against the US dollar today. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Gold was trading around 71,200 rupees per ten grams. Silver was trading around 82,485 rupees per kilogram when reports last came in. And…in intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading at 83 dollars and 65 cents per barrel.
