Vaccination is the key process for building resistance against any disease in the body through a vaccine. It stimulates the body’s immune system to protect against subsequent infection or disease and prevent it from further growing or hampering the cells. However, a major section of society is still not aware about the importance of vaccination. So, to make people aware, the Government of India observes March 16 as National Vaccination Day.
On this day, the government and various organisations have organised vaccination drives across the country to immunise children and adults against various diseases. The focus is on providing vaccines to those who may have missed their scheduled immunisations. National Vaccination Day is also an opportunity to educate people about the benefits of vaccination and dispel any myths or misconceptions about vaccines. Through awareness campaigns, the public is made aware of the importance of timely and complete immunisation to prevent the spread of diseases.The goal is to save individuals from vaccine-preventable diseases like Tuberculosis, chicken pox, flu, influenza, HPV and more.

The Government launched Mission Indradhanush in 2014 to rapidly increase the full immunization coverage. Mission Indradhanush provides vaccination against Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Polio, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Meningitis and Pneumonia, Haemophilus Inuenzae Type B infections, Japanese Encephalitis, Rotavirus, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine and Measles-Rubella (MR). Mission Indradhanush aims to reduce child mortality and accelerate the process of full immunization coverage for children at a rapid pace. It aims to ensure that all children under the age of 2 years and pregnant women are fully immunized with all available vaccines.

Fit India Carnival
The first-ever Fit India Carnival is being held at the JLN Stadium in New Delhi.The Carnival aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, aligning with the Fit India Movement’s vision of a fitter, healthier, and obesity-free nation. A host of sports activities including rope skipping, stationary cycling, arm wrestling, cricket bowling, squat and push-up challenges, have been organised during the three days at the Fit India carnival. There will also be presence of Sports Authority of India National Centre of Sports Sciences and Research (NCSSR) doctors, nutritionists and psychologists who will provide assessments free of cost to people visiting the carnival.
Fit India Movement was launched on 29th August, 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a view to make fitness an integral part of our daily lives. The mission of the Fit India Movement is to bring about behavioral changes and move towards a more physically active lifestyle. Towards achieving this mission, the Government has been taking various initiatives and conducted events to achieve the objectives of promoting fitness as easy, fun and free and to spread awareness on fitness and various physical activities that promote fitness through focused campaigns. It also aims to encourage indigenous sports and make fitness reach every school, college, university, panchayats and villages.The ongoing Fit India Carnival is part of Government’s vision of a fitter, healthier, and obesity-free nation. In fact, Fit India Movement is a people’s movement in which each and every citizen is a stakeholder.

At first, we are taking you to Goa where the annual Goa Carnival has concluded. Our correspondent Mahesh Chopade has submitted a report on the Carnival along with an interview with Goa’s Tourim Minister Rohan Khaunte :
The Goa Carnival is an annual celebration that showcases the state’s rich cultural heritage, held just before Lent. In 2025, it was scheduled from March 1st to 4th. The festival features vibrant parades with colorful floats in cities such as Panjim, Mapusa, Margao, and Vasco, narrating stories from Goan folklore, traditions, and contemporary themes. The festivities officially commence with King Momo’s decree to “Eat, Drink & Make Merry but Responsibly.” Organized by the Department of Tourism, the carnival takes place across major cities and towns in Goa, with Panaji hosting the grandest and most elaborate parade. The celebration concludes with the iconic Red and Black Dance, a grand finale organized by Club National in the capital.
“Known for its energetic atmosphere, the carnival includes costumed performers dancing to lively music, creating an engaging and joyous environment. Alongside the visual spectacle, food stalls offer Goan delicacies like vindaloo and bebinca, as well as international cuisine. The event also features live musical performances by local and international artists. Catering to a diverse audience, the carnival includes activities such as street plays and children’s parades. More than just a festival, the Goa Carnival is a vibrant expression of community and culture, bringing people together to celebrate the spirited essence of the region. The Tripura government has signed an agreement with the Indian Hotels Company Ltd. (IHCL) to make the 108-year-old Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala a 5-star hotel. The Pushpabanta (or Pushpavanta) Palace also known as Kunjaban Palace was built in 1917 by the then Tripura king Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Debbarma Bahadur and it served as the Raj Bhavan until 2018 before the Governor’s house was shifted to the Capital Complex area on the outskirts of Agartala. Our Agartala correspondent has more in this.
“Soon people of Tripura, country and visiting dignitaries from around the globe would definitely have two words on their tongue and they are ‘Waah Taj’…!! But this proverbial expression will not be for the quality of a particular tea brand, but for a global brand of Taj Hotels, dominating the hospitality sector. The brand of Taj that will be interwoven into the rich cultural heritage of Tripura, the Pushpabanta Palace will be called as Taj Pushpavant Palace. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who was present at the signing ceremony said that it is a significant step towards boosting tourism in Tripura. He said this world-class 5 star hotel with four exclusive rooms and touch of royal era will be a milestone in the state’s history, enabling the people from the world to know more about the Maharajas of Tripura.” The Indian Hotels Company Limited, South Asia’s largest Indian hospitality company and part of the Tata group renowned as an operator and owner of high-end hospitality products especially heritage palace hotels, luxury hotels and exotic resorts had proposed to collaborate and develop a world-class Palace Hotel as a ‘Taj Pushpabanta Palace’ of around 100 rooms under the ‘Taj Palace brand’. About Rs 250 crore would be invested within the existing land area of 7.78 acres of the Pushpabanta Palace, an official said, adding that the amount had been proposed to be invested by IHCL in a phased manner over a period of three years post receipt of all approvals for construction from relevant authorities. As part of the proposal, the beautiful heritage building will be restored and used as a reception and public areas, IHCL will at its cost also build all other areas outside of the heritage building. Most of the accommodation will be outside the heritage building, except for a few signature suites housed within the palace accentuating the royal experience. The proposal will benefit the state in terms of investment, boost tourism, promote local culture, generate direct and indirect employment across various sectors such as tourism, construction, food and beverage, supply of raw material and retail. It is said that during his last visit to Tripura in 1926, Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore stayed at the royal mansion and composed many songs sitting on the veranda of the palace. He had said that the then king Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur celebrated Tagore’s 80th birthday in the important palace in 1941. Kunal Shinde for Parikrama from Akashvani News, Agartala.”

The 14th meeting of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Experts Working Group (EWG) on Counter-Terrorism will be held in New Delhi on 19th and 20th of March. India and Malaysia will co-chair the two-day meeting. This will be the first meeting for activities planned for the EWG on Counter-Terrorism for the on-going cycle from 2024 to 2027. During the meeting, discussions will focus on a robust and comprehensive strategy designed to tackle the evolving threats of terrorism and extremism. This meeting aims to share the on-the-ground experiences of the Defence Forces of ASEAN and its dialogue partners.
Delegations from the 10 ASEAN nations including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand and eight dialogue partners from Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Japan, China, the USA, and Russia, along with Timor Leste and the ASEAN Secretariat, will participate in the meeting.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh will deliver the keynote address during the opening ceremony of the meeting.

आज अभिनेता राजपाल यादव का जन्मदिन है। राजपाल यादव बचपन से ही जिंदगी में कुछ बड़ा करना चाहते थे। यूं तो वे आर्मी जॉइन करना चाहते थे, लेकिन छोटे कद के कारण ऐसा नहीं हो सका। अभिनेता ने अभिनय की दुनिया में नाम कमाने का सपना देखा और उसे सच कर दिखाया। राजपाल यादव ने 1992 में थिएटर जॉइन किया। उन्होंने भारतेंदु नाट्य अकादमी में दाखिला लिया। दो साल थिएटर करने के बाद दिल्ली में एनएसडी गए। वहां एक्टिंग कोर्स करने के बाद 1997 में मुंबई पहुंचे। राजपाल यादव ने करियर की शुरुआत छोटे परदे से की। उन्होंने पुणे के यरवदा जेल पर ‘स्वराज’ नाम के डीडी वन पर आने वाले सीरियल से शुरुआत की। इंदु भूषण का रोल किया। 1998 में प्रकाश झा का मुंगेरी के भाई नौरंगी लाल आया, जिसमें उन्होंने नौरंगी का रोल किया। फिर साल 1999 में उन्हें पहली फिल्म मिली। हालांकि, उन्हें पहचान मिली फिल्म ‘जंगल’ (2000) में काम करके। इस फिल्म में उनका काम नोटिस किया गया। इसके बाद उन्हें पीछे मुड़कर नहीं देखना पड़ा। इसके बाद राजपाल ने ‘हंगामा’, ‘वक्त’, ‘चुप-चुप के’, ‘गरम मसाला’, ‘फिर हेरा फेरी’, ‘भूल भुलैया’, ‘भागम भाग’ और ‘ढोल’ जैसी फिल्मों में बतौर कॉमेडी एक्टर काम किया है।

आज क्रिकेटर इफ्तिखार अली खान पटौदी की जयंती है। नवाब इफ्तिखार अली खान पटौदी एकमात्र टेस्ट क्रिकेटर हैं जिन्होंने भारत और इंग्लैंड दोनों देशों के लिए खेला है। इन दोनों देशों के अलावा उन्होंने पटियाला के महाराजा की टीम XI, ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड विश्वविद्यालय, दक्षिण पंजाब, पश्चिम भारत और वूस्टरशर (इंग्लैंड) के लिए भी खेला है. 1946 में पटौदी ने भारत के इंग्लैंड टूर की कप्तानी भी की थी। नवाब इफ्तिखार अली खान एक राइट हैंडेड बैट्समैन थे! 2007 में मेरिलबोन क्रिकेट क्लब ने भारत और इंग्लैंड के बीच हुए पहले क्रिकेट मैच की 75वीं सालगिरह के उपरांत इफ्तिखार अली खान के नाम पर एक टेस्ट ट्रॉफी की घोषणा की जिसका नाम ‘पटौदी ट्रॉफी’ रखा गया यह खास ट्रॉफी भारत और इंग्लैंड के बीच एक टेस्ट सीरीज जीतने वाले को मिलती है.
