Bilateral Trade
• According to Department of Commerce, India’s total trade with Ethiopia stood around US 550 million dollars during 2024- 2025. During this period, India’s export to Ethiopia were over US 476 million dollars.
• Exports from India mainly include primary and semi-finished iron and steel products, drugs and pharmaceuticals, machinery and instruments, chemical, paper products, plastic products, manufactures of metal, etc.
• भारत द्वारा इथियोपिया से आयात की जाने वाली प्रमुख वस्तुएँ थीं: दालें, सन का धागा, बहुमूल्य और अर्ध-बहुमूल्य पत्थर, सब्जियाँ और बीज, चमड़ा और मसाले।
• भारत, इथियोपिया का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा व्यापारिक साझेदार है।
On cultural front, —
• The Embassy has organized International Gita Mahotsav from 17 to 22 November 2025, bringing together the Indian diaspora, local community members, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts to honor and celebrate the timeless teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
• The early settlers among the Indian community in Ethiopia came from Gujarat in the latter years of the 19th century. During imperial times, there were also tens of thousands of Indian teachers in schools all over Ethiopia, even in the most remote parts.
आज इथियोपिया के शिक्षा क्षेत्र में भारतीय समुदाय की व्यापक उपस्थिति है। विभिन्न इथियोपियाई विश्वविद्यालयों और उच्च शिक्षण संस्थानों में लगभग 150 भारतीय संकाय सदस्य कार्यरत हैं।
• इथियोपिया में प्रवासी भारतीय समुदाय की अनुमानित संख्या लगभग 2500 है। इस देश में कई भारतीय कंपनियाँ हैं। साथ ही, कई इथियोपियाई कंपनियाँ भी हैं जो भारतीय श्रमिकों को रोजगार देती हैं। इथियोपिया और भारत के बीच वर्षों पुराने संबंध रहे हैं और हाल के दिनों में दोनों देशों के संबंध और प्रगाढ़ हुए हैं। प्रधानमंत्री का यह दौरा भारत और इथोपिया के आपसी संबंधों, आर्थिक सहयोग की संभावनाओं अफ्रीकी यूनियन के साथ भारत के मजबूत होते संबंध और ग्लोबल साउथ की आवाज को और मुखरता के साथ उठाने में किस प्रकार मददगार साबित होगा। इन सभी विषयों पर आकाशवाणी संवाददाता सुशील चंद्र तिवारी ने इथियोपिया में भारत के राजदूत अनिल कुमार राय के साथ विशेष बातचीत की।
Talking to Akashwani News, Maitri joshi, who is a leading Indian business woman in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and was also part on pannel on women issues during recent Prawasi Bhartiya Diwas, said that people are very excited for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. She said that Ethiopia and India share a common culture and women of both countries can learn a lot from each other.
प्रधानमंत्री की यात्रा को लेकर स्थानीय लोगों और भारतवंशियों में काफी उत्साह है दोनों देशों के बीच सदियों पुराने संबंध रहे हैं और शिक्षा का क्षेत्र इसकी एक मिसाल है। पेश है इथियोपिया की राजधानी एडिस अबाबा से हमारे संवाददाता सुशील चंद्र तिवारी की एक रिपोर्ट।
भारत और इथोपिया के बीच सैकड़ो साल पुराने आपसी संबंध है। दोनों देशों के बीच एक जैसे पारिवारिक मूल्य और गुरु तथा वरिष्ठ जनों के प्रति सम्मान की भावना समान है। इसका जीता जागता उदाहरण है इथोपिया का शिक्षा क्षेत्र जहां हाल में कुछ सालों पहले तक भारतीय शिक्षकों का बोलबाला था। इथियोपिया में भारत के राजदूत अनिल कुमार राय ने आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की यात्रा को लेकर इथियोपिया के भारतवंशियों के अलावा स्थानीय लोगों में भी जबरदस्त उत्साह है। शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में भी दोनों देशों के बीच गहरे संबंध हैं। अभी भी यहां के विश्वविद्यालय और कॉलेज में भारतीय शिक्षकों और भारत में शिक्षा प्राप्त इथियोपियाई नागरिकों की बहुतयत है।
दोनों देशों के बीच आपसी संबंधों को बढ़ाने और शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में सहयोग बढ़ाने के साथ ही भाषा संबंधी समस्याओं को दूर करने और एक दूसरे की संस्कृति को बेहतर ढंग से समझने के लिए कई भारतीय लगातार प्रयासरत है। ऐसे ही एक भारतीय डॉक्टर के शेखर ने आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में बताया कि उन्होंने इथियोपिया की भाषा अहमेरिक का विशद अध्ययन करने के बाद परस्पर संबंध को और मजबूत करने के लिए उन्होंने लगभग 25 पुस्तक इथोपिया की अहमेरिक भाषा में लिखी है इसके अलावा वह लगातार लोगों को हिंदी और भारतीय लोगों को इथोपिया भाषा हमारी सीखने का काम करतेहैं। डॉ के शेखर ने ethio language box भी बनाया है जो अनुवाद और एक दूसरे की भाषाओं को सिखाने में मदद करता है।

हम याद कर रहे हैं, विश्वविख्यात तबला वादक और पद्म श्री उस्ताद जाकिर हुसैन को। आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है।
जाकिर हुसैन तबलावादन
वे एक संगीतकार, संगीत निर्माता और फिल्म अभिनेता भी थे। उन्हें शास्त्रीय भारतीय संगीत को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए जाना जाता था। 9 मार्च 1951 को मुंबई में जन्में उस्ताद जाकिर हुसैन तबला वादक उस्ताद अल्ला रक्खा के बेटे थे। 12 साल की उम्र से ही ज़ाकिर ने संगीत की दुनिया में अपने तबले की आवाज़ को बिखेरना शुरू कर दिया था। 1973 में उनका पहला एलबम लिविंग इन द मैटेरियल वर्ल्ड आया था। उसके बाद तो जैसे ज़ाकिर हुसैन ने ठान लिया कि अपने तबले की आवाज़ को दुनिया भर में बिखेरेंगे। 1988 में जब उन्हें पद्म श्री का पुरस्कार मिला था तब वह महज 37 वर्ष के थे और इस उम्र में यह पुरस्कार पाने वाले सबसे कम उम्र के व्यक्ति भी थे। इसी तरह 2002 में संगीत के क्षेत्र में उनके योगदान के लिए उन्हें पद्म भूषण का पुरस्कार दिया गया था। ज़ाकिर हुसैन को 1992 और 2009 में संगीत का सबसे प्रतिष्ठित पुरस्कार ग्रैमी अवार्ड भी मिला है। 22 मार्च 2023 को राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू द्वारा पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित किया गया।

Geeta Phogat was born on this day in 1988. She is a freestyle wrestler who won India’s first-ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. She was also the first Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympic Games. Geeta Phogat was born in Balali village of Charkhi Dadri district, Haryana. Her father Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former wrestler himself and a Dronacharya Award recipient, is also her coach.

Nek Chand Saini was born on this day in 1924. He was a self-taught Indian artist, known for building the Rock Garden of Chandigarh, an eighteen-acre sculpture garden in the city of Chandigarh. He was awarded the Padma Shri by Government of India in 1984. He died in 2015. The Rock Garden is one of the most famous sites in India. Chand, its creator, died in 2015, but it is still visited by millions of people every year.
