Today’s story is not just about diplomacy or global politics-it’s about language, people, and a powerful message for the year ahead. For the first time ever, the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has chosen **Hindi** for his official New Year message for 2026. Yes-history was made when the UN released the message in Hindi, complete with a written version and a video featuring Hindi subtitles. It may sound like a small change, but in the world of international diplomacy, this is a **big moment**.

And let’s talk about **India’s linguistic richness**, because Hindi is only part of the picture. India is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. The Constitution officially recognizes **22 languages**, including Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, Urdu, and Sanskrit. On top of that, there are **hundreds of regional languages and thousands of dialects**, each with its own culture, stories, music, and history. Add to this thousands of dialects, and India becomes a living example of how diversity and unity can exist side by side.

Now, while the language of the message made headlines, the content of the message was just as striking. In his address, Secretary-General Guterres didn’t sugarcoat the situation. He warned that the world is entering 2026 surrounded by **uncertainty and chaos**. Conflicts continue to spread, global tensions are rising, and inequality is growing deeper. According to him, we are spending too much time and money preparing for war-and not enough building a future.

In powerful words, he reminded the world that **real security doesn’t come from guns or missiles-it comes from dignity, opportunity, and hope**. You don’t create peace by funding wars. You create peace by fighting poverty. By delivering this message in Hindi, the UN didn’t just speak to governments-it spoke directly to people. It echoed a familiar Indian idea: *Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam*-the world is one family. A thought deeply rooted in India’s multilingual, multicultural identity.

The handloom and handicraft industry is a testament to the State’s rich cultural heritage. The art and crafts of Manipur are deeply rooted in the traditions of its various ethnic groups, each contributing to the State’s unique cultural tapestry. The handloom and handicraft products of Manipur are well known outside the State and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated women from Manipur for her initiative of self-reliance through handloom and handicraft industry. Here is the report from Imphal.
In the Hmar cominated Churachandpur district of Manipur- Mrs. Margaret Ramtharsiem has been weaving since a very tender age in a Mini Loin Loom called ‘Tete-Bem’. Today the 43 year old Mrs. Margartet opened a tribal craft house in Rengkai in Churachandpur district, Manipur, promoting and designing the ethnic handloom- Loin Loom and handicrafts products for sustenance and to inculcate the idea of self-reliance to fellow helpless women and youth who are struggling for economic survival. The dedication and hard work towards self-reliance has been noticed and encouraged by the Prime Minister in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast last Sunday. Shri Narendra Modi narrated the story of Mrs. Margaret Ramtharsiem and said that she saw Manipur’s traditional products, its handicrafts and items made from bamboo and wood with a broad vision. ‘Because of that vision, from a handicraft artist she became a medium for transforming people’s lives and today her unit employs over 50 artists and her products are marketed in several states across the country, including Delhi’, Prime Minister added. Speaking to Akashvani News, Mrs. Margaret expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for appreciating the work done by her team to the world through the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme today. She said:-

बुटीबोरी कनोली बार में हरियाणा सिटी गैस के गस मदर स्टेशन के उद्घाटन का समारोह हाल ही में केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी की अध्यक्षता में संपन्न हुआ इस प्रोजेक्ट से आने वाले कुछ सालों में नागपुर सिलेंडर मुक्त हो जाएगा और उद्योगों को 24 घंटे नेचुरल गैस की आपूर्ति मिल पाएगी. इस अवसर पर कंपनी की ओर से बताया गया की नागपुर जिले में गाड़ियों इंडस्ट्रियल प्रोजेक्ट्स और घरेलू इस्तेमाल के लिए पीएनजी देने की जिम्मेदारी कंपनी ने ली है यह पूरा प्रोजेक्ट 8 साल का है इसके हिसाब से यह काम अलग-अलग चरणों में पूरा किया जाएगा पहले चरण के तहत जिले में 27 सीएनजी स्टेशन चालू हो गए हैं इसके जरिए चार पहिया वाली गाड़ियों को सीएनजी सप्लाई की जा रही है इसके अलावा कंपनी का लक्ष्य 1 वर्ष में इस संख्या को 50 से बढ़ता है और 8 वर्ष में 500 स्टेशन शुरू करने का लक्ष्य रखा गया है इस अवसर पर नागपुर के लिए की गई इस हरित पहला का केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने अभिनंदन किया: तो बहुत जल्दी हमारा देश आत्मनिर्भर भारत बनेगा गांव, गरीब, मजदूर, किसान का कल्याण होगा, प्रदूषण से मुक्ति मिलेगी और कन्स्यूमर को फ्यूल कॉस्ट में बचत होगी और इसलिए इसको बढ़ाने के लिए भारत सरकार ने जो इनिशिएटिव लिया है उसमें नागपुर का ये प्रोजेक्ट हरियाणा गैस को मिला है। उनको मैं शुभकामनाएँ देता हूँ और जल्द से जल्द जरूर आप नागपुर शहर और जिले में इसको लेकर जाईये।

Strict measures have been taken in Alappuzha district in Kerala to bring the avian flu situation under control. After samples sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, an emergency meeting was convened and containment measures were immediately initiated. Poultry within a one kilometer radius of the epicenter were ordered to be culled, and around 28 thousand birds were culled within two days. Meanwhile, the Alappuzha District Collector announced that the sale and consumption of poultry products have been banned within a ten-kilometre radius of the affected area. “Sanitisation work has begun in Alappuzha district as part of avian flu prevention measures, with cleaning operations underway at bird culling sites. Samples of dead birds from three more locations have been collected and sent for testing. FIFA has said that it has received more than 150 million ticket requests for the 2026 World Cup to be hosted in Mexico, Canada and United States of America. Huge ticket requests has set a new World Cup ticketing record with the Random Selection Draw phase only at its halfway point. The Random Selection Draw ticketing phase opened on 11 December this year and will end on 13 January next year. The 2026 World Cup will kick off on 11th June next year, with the final scheduled for 19th July across 16 cities spread across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. A total of 104 matches will be played between a record 48 teams.

Benchmark domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, ended flat in a range-bound trade today. Markets opened lower on weak global cues but recovered their early losses. However, the indices were unable to sustain momentum and experienced intraday swings between gains and losses throughout the session. The Sensex dipped 20 points, to close at 84 thousand and 675, while the Nifty slipped marginally by three points, to settle at 25 thousand and 939.
In the Forex market, the rupee today appreciated by 19 paise to trade at 89 rupees and 78 paise against US dollar, a short while ago.
In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading over half a per cent up at 62 US dollars and 28 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was trading almost half a per cent up at 58 US dollars and 38 cents per barrel in intra-day trade.
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading up at 1,36,770 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading up at 2,35,820 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
