ये चंद अशार हैं, प्रसिद्ध कवि तिलोकचंद मरहूम की एक रचना के। जो बताते हैं कि कैसे भारत गुलामी की गिरहो को तोड़कर आज़ाद हुआ। और आज का दिन यानि 26 जनवरी, यह उस ऐतिहासिक दिन की याद दिलाता है जब भारत ने अपना संविधान लागू किया था और एक संप्रभु लोकतांत्रिक गणराज्य बना। ये दिन हमें स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों और उन महान हस्तियों की भी याद दिलाता है। जिनके त्याग और संघर्ष से हम आज आज़ाद भारत में सांस ले रहे हैं।

Republic Day marks a defining milestone in India’s national journey. It marks the day, the Constitution of India came into force on 26th January 1950, formally establishing the country as a ‘Sovereign Democratic Republic’. While independence on 15th August 1947 ended colonial rule, it was the adoption of the Constitution that completed India’s transition to self-governance based on law, institutional accountability, and the will of the people of India.

After nearly three years of extensive deliberations, the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India, completing one of the most significant exercises in democratic institution-building. The drafting process involved detailed discussions on the nature of the Indian State, the rights and duties of citizens, the balance of power between different parts of government, and safeguards for social justice and equality. The Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path today highlighted a unique blend of India’s cultural diversity and military prowess. The theme this year is ‘Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram’ and ‘Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. Thirty tableaux from various States, Union Territories, and Central Government Ministries and Departments were displayed during the parade. These tableaux showcased the cultural diversity of the country by exhibiting a unique mix of 150 years of national song Vande Mataram and the nation’s rapid progress on the back of growing self-reliance across sectors.

The Indian diaspora across the world celebrated India’s 77th Republic Day with enthusiasm at Indian missions abroad, where the national tricolour was unfurled and patriotic fervour was on full display. In Beijing, China Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat unfurled the tricolour and read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu’s address. The celebrations featured chants of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. While in Shanghai, Consul General Pratik Mathur hoisted the flag at an event attended by over 400 members of the Indian diaspora, Chinese community and diplomatic corps. In Singapore, Indian High Commissioner Dr Shilpak Ambule led the Indian diaspora community in celebrating Republic Day with the reading of the President’s address. Students from the Indian schools performed cultural dance and the Sarang helicopter squad who arrived for next week’s Singapore Airshow also parrticipataed in the programme.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as India commemorates the adoption of its Constitution, United States joins them in recognizing its enduring significance as the foundation of the world’s largest democracy. He said, US looks forward to deepening the cooperation between the two countries and stressed on the importance of Quad to promote a “free, open, and prosperous” Indo-Pacific region. Rubio also expressed hope that India-US relationship continues to reach new heights and will be the defining relationship of the 21st century.

“77वें गणतंत्र दिवस के अवसर पर गुजरात के सीमावर्ती कच्छ जिले में स्थित धोरडो गांव का विश्व-विख्यात सफेद रण आज एक ऐतिहासिक घटना का साक्षी बना, जहाँ खादी से बना दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा राष्ट्रध्वज तिरंगा राष्ट्रीय गौरव के साथ प्रदर्शित किया गया। भारतीय सेना और बॉर्डर सिक्योरिटी फोर्स के जवानों ने इस विशाल तिरंगे को सलामी दी। यह राष्ट्रध्वज खादी के कपड़े से निर्मित है, जिसकी लंबाई 225 फीट, चौड़ाई 150 फीट, कुल क्षेत्रफल 37,500 वर्ग फीट है और इसका वजन लगभग 1400 किलोग्राम है। इस तिरंगे के निर्माण में 4600 मीटर खादी कपड़े का उपयोग किया गया, जिसे तैयार करने में 70 कारीगरों ने 49 दिनों तक कार्य किया।

49वें अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कोलकाता पुस्तक मेले का औपचारिक उद्घाटन गुरुवार को मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी द्वारा दीप प्रज्वलित करके किया गया, जो भारत के सबसे बड़े साहित्यिक समारोहों में से एक की शुरुआत का प्रतीक है। यह मेला 3 फरवरी तक साल्ट लेक मेला मैदान में चलेगा। इस वर्ष का थीम देश अर्जेंटीना है, जो मेले के बढ़ते अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्वरूप को दर्शाता है। इस संस्करण के लिए कुल 1,100 स्टॉल लगाए गए हैं।
“The organiser, Publishers and Booksellers Guild expect a surge in the number of visitors this year. Around 2.7 million book lovers attended the fair last year, and the Guild anticipates an even larger turnout this time. Improved metro connectivity, particularly the linking of Howrah and Sealdah corridors, is expected to make access easier for visitors from across the city and the state, raising expectations of record crowds. This year holds special emotional significance as this year marks the pre-golden jubilee edition of the fair. More than a thousand small and large stalls have been set up, with participation from 21 countries, further reinforcing the fair’s global identity. Nagapattinam which is the charming coastal town in Tamil Nadu is a treasure trove of history spirituality and natural beauty and attempts are made to popularise its specification through four curated tourism trails which is set to roll out over the coming weeks.
“Nagapattinam the significant port city which boasts a rich history as an ancient Chola port, a strategic hub for trade, and a centre of religious significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, and Christians is a symbol having a legacy of diverse cultural influences and historical structures. In an attempt to popularise Nagapattinam’s rich history and ecological landscape, the district administration has lined up four curated tourism trails, one of which commenced this week, with the remaining three set to roll out over the coming weeks. The initiative, part of a broader tourism development plan, aims to cultivate appreciation for the district’s flora, fauna, and heritage, particularly its legacy as a historic port town shaped by multiple cultures. The trails are being organised by the Nagapattinam District Tourism Promotion Committee under the chairmanship of Collector P. Akash. Encouraged by the response to the Sapda Vidanga trail launched in November, which has already completed two tours, the district administration has expanded the programme with new thematic trails focusing on heritage, ecology, and faith. The Nagapattinam Heritage Walk, scheduled to begin on February 15, has been designed to draw attention to the town’s lesser-known historic structures. Multiple stakeholders were brought on board, including the lighthouse authorities, cemetery committees, conservation experts, and the municipality. The heritage walk will cover colonial-era and port-related landmarks, with an emphasis on story-telling and contextualising what remains of Nagapattinam’s past. According to Damarika Archaeological Training Agency, “To introduce a historical trail seven keysites are identified and designed a compact 3.5-hour circuit to showcase Nagapattinam’s long and layered history as a port town shaped by Danish and Dutch influences. The trail places the town in both its contemporary and historical context. It includes the old court campus with its colonial architecture, the railway station that dates back over 160, years, and the heritage head post office built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The trail also covers historic cemeteries including the Queen’s Tomb and the Dutch cemetery. To complete the experience, participants are offered heritage food, including delta-region sweets, sembaruthi tea, and traditional sprouted grains. An eco trail to Kodiyakkarai, which began on January 17 with the support of the Forest Department is already under way. Conducted in the early hours of the morning to minimise disturbance, the trail offers guided birdwatching at wetlands that remain largely unexplored. Migratory birds from regions, including Iran, Austraila, and northern India, are currently being sighted. The aim is to create sensitivity and appreciation and observing birds using binoculars and photography will be encouraged. The trail also includes a visit to the Kodiyakkarai Wildlife Sanctuary and a boat ride at Vedaranyam. Two additional trails – Glimpses of Nagapattinam, focusing on major spiritual and religious sites in the entire district, and the Madakovil Trail, covering temples in the hinterland – will also be launched coming month. हनवंत सिंह की आज पुण्यतिथि है। इनका जन्म 16 जून 1923 को राठौड़ वंश में हुआ था। वे 1947 में जोधपुर के महाराजा बने, जब भारत स्वतंत्र हुआ और रियासतों के भारत में विलय की प्रक्रिया चल रही थी। 25 जनवरी 1952 की रात वे अपनी दूसरी पत्नी जुबैदा के साथ बीचक्राफ्ट बोनांजा विमान से उदयपुर जाने के लिए निकले। लेकिन 26 जनवरी की सुबह उनका विमान राजस्थान के सुमेरपुर के पास दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया। 2001 में आई फिल्म ‘जुबैदा’ ने हनवंत सिंह और ज़ुबैदा की सच्ची कहानी को फिर से जीवंत किया। करिश्मा कपूर ने जुबैदा का किरदार निभाया और मनोज बाजपेयी महाराज हनवंत सिंह की भूमिक में नजर आए थे।

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by Government of India in 1988. In 2007, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour given by Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters.
He started his professional career with All India Radio. He worked there from 1942 to 1966 in various jobs including Station Director. For the AIR, he wrote and produced programmes in Punjabi and other languages. In addition, he authored a large number of plays and dramas. He was the Secretary/Director, National Book Trust, India from 1966 to 1973.
