Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project (4-Laning of Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of NH-715), worth over 6,950 Crore Rupees in Kaliabor, Assam today. The 86 km long Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project is an environmentally conscious National Highway project.
काजीरंगा एलिवेटेड कॉरिडोर परियोजना में 35 किलोमीटर लंबा एलिवेटेड वाइल्डलाइफ कॉरिडोर शामिल होगा, जो काजीरंगा राष्ट्रीय उद्यान से होकर गुजरेगा। इसके अलावा, इसमें 21 किलोमीटर का बाईपास खंड और राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-715 के मौजूदा राजमार्ग खंड का 30 किलोमीटर तक विस्तार करके इसे दो लेन से चार लेन का बनाया जाएगा। इस परियोजना का उद्देश्य, पार्क की समृद्ध जैव विविधता की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करते हुए क्षेत्रीय संपर्क को बेहतर बनाना है।
The project will pass through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts and will significantly improve connectivity to Upper Assam, particularly Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. The elevated wildlife corridor will ensure uninterrupted movement of animals, reduce human-wildlife conflict. It will also enhance road safety, reduce travel time and accident rates, and support growing passenger and freight traffic.
इस परियोजना के अंतर्गत, जाखलबन्धा और बोकाखाट में बाईपास विकसित किए जाएंगे जो शहरों में भीड़भाड़ कम करने, शहरी आवागमन में सुधार करने और स्थानीय निवासियों के जीवन की गुणवत्ता बढ़ाने में मदद करेंगे।
The Prime Minister underlined the historical importance of Kaliabor in Assam’s past, present and future, noting that it is the gateway to Kaziranga National Park and a hub of connectivity for Upper Assam. He recalled that it was from Kaliabor that the great warrior Lachit Borphukan strategized to drive out Mughal invaders, and under his leadership the people of Assam, with courage, unity and determination, defeated the Mughal army.
P.M. Modi emphasized that this was not merely a military victory but a declaration of Assam’s pride and self-confidence.

Highlighting that Kaziranga is home to the one-horned rhinoceros, the Prime Minister explained the challenges faced during floods when wildlife seeks higher ground and must cross the National Highway, often getting trapped.
उन्होंने बताया कि सरकार का प्रयास है कि वनों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करते हुए यातायात सुचारू रूप से चलता रहे। उन्होंने जानकारी दी कि इसी उद्देश्य से कालियाबोर से नुमालीगढ़ तक 90 किलोमीटर लंबा गलियारा लगभग 7,000 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से विकसित किया जा रहा है, जिसमें 35 किलोमीटर लंबा एलिवेटेड वन्यजीव गलियारा भी शामिल है। इस गलियारे का डिज़ाइन वन्यजीवों – गैंडों, हाथियों और बाघों के पारंपरिक आवागमन मार्गों को ध्यान में रखकर तैयार किया गया है।
P.M. Modi remarked that the corridor will also improve connectivity between Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and along with new rail services, will open fresh opportunities for the people.
Noting that when nature is protected, opportunities also arise, Prime Minister pointed out that Kaziranga has seen a steady rise in tourism in recent years. Through homestays, guide services, transport, handicrafts and small businesses, local youth have found new sources of income.

The Prime Minister observed that for long it was believed that nature and progress were opposed to each other, but today India is showing the world that both economy and ecology can advance together. He noted that in the past decade, forest and tree cover has increased, with people enthusiastically participating in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign under which more than 260 crore trees have been planted.

सोलह जनवरी को देशभर में राष्ट्रीय स्टार्टअप दिवस मनाया गया। इस मौके पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने कहा कि स्टार्टअप इंडिया के दस साल पूरे हो गए हैं और यह सफर सिर्फ एक सरकारी योजना की सफलता की कहानी नहीं है, बल्कि लाखों सपनों और अनगिनत कल्पनाओं के साकार होने की गाथा है।
छत्तीसगढ़ के आदिवासी बहुल जशपुर जिले में शुरू हुए ‘जशप्योर ब्रान्ड’ ने भी इस इलाके में रहने वाली हजारों आदिवासी महिलाओं के सपनों को साकार किया है। यह स्टार्टअप इंडिया के साथ ही वोकल फॉर लोकल अभियान की सफलता की एक मिसाल है।
छत्तीसगढ़ में जशप्योर ब्रांड के तहत जशपुर जिले की आदिवासी महिलाएं प्राकृतिक वनोपज का प्रसंस्करण कर विभिन्न प्रकार की खाद्य सामग्रियां तैयार करती हैं। इससे जिले में महिला उद्यमिता को बढ़ावा मिल रहा है और स्थानीय समुदायों को रोजगार उपलब्ध हो रहा है।
इस स्टार्टअप के लिए पहल करने वाले समाजसेवी और युवा वैज्ञानिक समर्थ जैन ने बताया कि जशप्योर ब्रांड के उत्पादों की मुख्य विशेषता यह है कि ये पूरी तरह से प्राकृतिक हैं। इनमें किसी भी प्रकार के प्रिजरवेटिव, रंग या कृत्रिम स्वाद का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता।
जशप्योर ब्रांड के तहत वर्तमान में करीब तीन हजार महिलाएं काम कर रही हैं और इनमें से लगभग नब्बे प्रतिशत से अधिक कर्मचारी आदिवासी महिलाएं हैं। ये महिलाएं उत्पादन से लेकर पैंकेजिंग तक हर स्तर पर सक्रिय भूमिका निभाती हैं।
इस ब्रांड से जुड़ी एक महिला प्रभा साय ने बताया कि उन्हें महुआ और मिलेट से विभिन्न खाद्य सामग्रियां बनाने का प्रशिक्षण दिया गया है।

PUDUCHERRY
Karaikal in Puducherry is witnessing a festive atmosphere with the ongoing Karaikal Carnival 2026, organised as part of the Pongal celebrations. The annual festival, organised by the Karaikal District Administration in coordination with the Departments of Tourism, Art and Culture and Agriculture, has drawn large public participation and tourist interest through a series of cultural, sports and entertainment programmes.
The Carnival began with a colourful cultural road show that passed through major roads of Karaikal town. More than one thousand students from over forty schools and colleges, along with folk artists and cultural troupes, took part in the procession.
Another major attraction has been the 22nd Flower and Vegetable Exhibition, organised by the Department of Agriculture. Spread across 4,500 square feet, the exhibition features around 45,000 flowering plants and innovative floral and vegetable installations. With this year’s theme focusing on International Women Farmers, special exhibition halls highlight the role of women in agriculture.
As part of the celebrations, a Mini Marathon and various sports competitions, including handball, kabaddi, badminton, tennis, cricket, football, volleyball, hockey and chess, were organised, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students and youth.
Today on the valedictory day, a variety of programmes like A Dog and Cat Show at Karaikal Beach, an exciting Boat Race at the Arasalar Boat Club have attracted large crowds.The Carnival also features a Food Festival, Handicrafts Exhibition, and an Agricultural Festival, offering visitors a blend of culture, cuisine and creativity.The three day festival will conclude in the evening with a grand film music concert featuring popular playback singers and musicians, followed by a grand dance performance presented by renowned film choreographers. SAMBALPUR
Makar Sankranti is a renowned festival in Western Odisha. This year, the traditional Makar Mela is underway in the village of Bamra in the Sambalpur district. Lakhs of devotees are arriving to witness the festivities.
To seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, lakhs of people from across Western Odisha are visiting the Makar Mela. In Bamra, Lord Madanmohan (the moving idol of Lord Jagannath) and Dhabaleswar Mahadev from Kechupani village reached the fairgrounds via chariots for a special ritual. This sacred meeting of the two deities is known as Hari-Har Bhet. The seven-day-long festival is scheduled to conclude on January 20th.

In Men’s Cricket, the decisive third and final ODI match of the series is underway between India and New Zealand at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Put into bat first, New Zealand were 265 for 3 in 41.5 overs when reports last came in. Earlier India won the toss and opted to bowl first.
The current ODI series is tied 1-1, with India winning the first match and New Zealand the second. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in focus India hope to bounce back from the painful defeat of the second match. Charles Bruce Chatwin passed away on this day in 1989. He was an English travel writer, novelist and journalist. His first book, In Patagonia (1977), established Chatwin as a travel writer, although he considered himself instead a storyteller, interested in bringing to light unusual tales. He won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for his novel On the Black Hill (1982), while his novel Utz (1988) was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Kundan Lal Saigal, often abbreviated as K. L. Saigal passed away on this day in 1947. He was an Indian singer and actor who worked in Hindi cinema, which was centred in Calcutta (Kolkata) during his time, but is currently based in Bombay (Mumbai). Saigal’s unique voice quality which was a mixture of baritone and soft tenor was the benchmark for most of the singers who followed him. In fact it remains the gold standard even today shining through very early and practically primitive recording technology. He did not sing songs on which other actors would lip-sync for the camera. It was only towards the very last stages of his career, during 1945 to 1947, that he sang to make studio recordings, and these were for himself as the actor on the screen. Thus, while other singers in Hindi Cinema are playback singers, he was not a playback singer.

ये पंक्तियाँ हैं हिंदी के सुप्रसिद्ध कवि हरिवंश राय बच्चन की जिनकी आज पुण्यतिथि है। उनका निधन 18 जनवरी 2003को हुआ। हरिवंश राय बच्चन को पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया। ‘दो चट्टाने के लिए उन्हें हिंदी कविता का ‘साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार’ मिला। ‘मधुशाला’…उनका पहला प्रकाशित काव्य-संग्रह माना जाता है। ये वो रचना थी जिसके लिए उन्हें अपने दौर में और आज भी सबसे ज़्यादा जाना और माना जाता है। उनको सरस्वती सम्मान, कमल पुरस्कार, और सोवियत-लैंड—नेहरू पुरस्कार भी मिला। उनके अन्य संग्रहों में प्रमुख हैं- ‘मधुबाला,’ ‘मधुकलश,’ ‘तेरा हार,’ और ‘निशा निमंत्रण’।
