Every year from December 1 to 10, Kohima’s hills turn into a celebration of colours, melodies, and cultural memories. Born in the year 2000 and now celebrating its 26th glorious edition, the Hornbill Festival is lovingly known as the “Festival of Festivals”- and for all the right reasons.

Across India, the Great Indian Hornbill soars through the tall canopies of the Western Ghats and the dense forests of the Northeast. It is even the state bird of Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala, cherished not just for its beauty but for the stories it carries.

In 2023 alone, the festival welcomed over 1.5 lakh visitors, becoming one of India’s biggest cultural gatherings. Nagaland is often called the “Land of Festivals”, and rightly so. For a state where over 60% of the population depends on agriculture, every season, every harvest, and every moon has its own celebration.

Hornbill Festival beautifully brings all these cultures together at one place- the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, just 12 km from Kohima, allow visitors to travel across centuries and tribes in a single day.
“Folk music fade in As the stage is set for the 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival, the much-awaited celebration will officially kick off this evening at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. Tourists from across the country and abroad are already flocking in to experience the “Festival of Festivals,”. Excitement is high among domestic and foreign visitors eager to witness one of India’s most vibrant cultural showcases.
The inaugural ceremony begin at 4:00 PM at the Unity Plaza in Kisama, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla as the Chief Host, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as the Host, and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along as the Festival Host. This year, the festival welcomes six country partners—the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Austria, Malta and Switzerland—while Arunachal Pradesh joins as the State Partner. Beyond Kisama, a range of programmes across Nagaland will carry the festive spirit throughout the state.

Over the next ten days, visitors can look forward to breathtaking cultural performances by all Naga tribes, the iconic Hornbill Music Festival, the World War II Peace Rally, traditional sports and indigenous games, ethnic cuisines, and age-old storytelling.

To enhance experience, the festival grounds now feature a vibrant new look, complete with expanded seating, an upgraded stage, and accessible pathways designed to be friendly for persons with disabilities. Under the theme ‘Cultural Connect,’ 18 tribal troupes from Nagaland will showcase cultural performances every day at the Unity Arena.
Food stalls spread across the venue will offer indigenous cuisines and traditional local brews, alongside emerging favourites such as locally sourced coffee.Beyond Kisama, exciting programmes are also planned across the state extending the festive spirit even further. The extension of Hornbill Festival will also be held in the districts of Mon, Dimapur, Zunheboto and others. Special attractions such as music concerts, night carnivals and curated cultural trails promise an immersive experience into the Naga way of life. Enhanced security and crowd-management systems are in place. While, transport facilities, including shuttle buses and a special helicopter service, are also ready to ensure smooth connectivity. अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिव्यांग सप्ताह
अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिव्यांग सप्ताह के अवसर पर आज नई दिल्ली में सृजन – कला और शिल्प कार्यशाला के चौथे संस्करण का आयोजन किया गया। यह कार्यक्रम स्पेशल ओलंपिक्स भारत और राष्ट्रीय आधुनिक कला संग्रहालय के सहयोग से हुआ। इस कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्य दिव्यांग कलाकारों को रचनात्मक अभिव्यक्ति, कौशल विकास और विभिन्न कला रूपों का प्रशिक्षण प्रदान करना था।
“हर वर्ष 3 दिसंबर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिव्यांग दिवस मनाया जाता है, जिसका उद्देश्य विकलांगता से जुड़े मुद्दों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाना और दिव्यांग व्यक्तियों के सम्मान, अधिकारों और कल्याण के लिए समर्थन जुटाना है। इस कार्यशाला में दिव्यांग बच्चों को सम्बोधित करते हुए केंद्रीय मंत्री सतीश चंद्र दुबे ने प्रतिभागियों की कला व प्रतिभा की सराहना की। उन्होंने कहा कि सृजन जैसे कार्यक्रम एक समावेशी और सशक्त समाज के निर्माण में सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी को मजबूत करते हैं।
इस मौके पर स्पेशल ओलंपिक भारत की अध्यक्ष मल्लिका नड्डा ने कहा कि इस कार्यक्रम में आये दिव्यांग कलाकार दृढ़ता, कल्पनाशीलता और उत्कृष्टता के प्रतीक हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि यह एक कार्यशाला नहीं बल्कि एक ऐसा आंदोलन है जो हर व्यक्ति को उसकी क्षमताओं के लिए सम्मानित और प्रोत्साहित करने का मार्ग प्रशस्त करता है। सृजन कार्यक्रम में कुछ दिव्यांग बच्चों का चयन किया जाएगा जिन्हें लगभग दो महीने का प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा। जिसके बाद उनकी चित्रकलाओं की एक प्रदर्शनी भी आयोजित की जायेगी। इस कार्यक्रम का समापन इस सामूहिक संकल्प के साथ हुआ कि दिव्यांगजन को रचनात्मक और सांस्कृतिक मंच उपलब्ध कराने के प्रयास आगे भी निरंतर जारी रहेंगे। परिक्रमा के लिए अमन यादव, दिल्ली”

Manipur has unexplored nature, different tribes, unique lifestyle, enthralling music & dance, pleasant art and culture which attract tourists. The State has a number of festivals and fairs throughout the year which also give rejoice to the domestic and international tourists. Among the festivals are tourism festivals like Manipur Sangai Festival, Shirui Lily Festival, Loktak Festival which are organised in aim to boost the tourism sector of Manipur. Among them, the biggest tourism festival- Manipur Sangai Festival 2025 concluded yesterday. We have a report from our Imphal Correspondent JJ Thokchom about the festival;
“Manipur Sangai Festival was started from 2010 and is organised by the State Tourism Department and the biggest festival of the State held annually to promote tourism. The festival is usually organised from 21st November to 30th November every year. This year, the festival kicked off from 21st November and was held at 14 different locations of the State. While the Cherry Blossom Festival, which is a part of Manipur Sangai Festival, was held at Senapati district, other events like International Polo Tournament, Music and Culture shows, stalls for cuisine, handloom and handicrafts, fashion show and other were held in different areas of valley districts including in Loktak lake. The main venue of the festival was at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal where different events were organised to attract tourists. Stalls for different items were also opened in the venue which attract both domestic and international tourists. Screening of films at Manipur State Film Development Society and cultural dance and song at the main venue were the main events for this ten days long festival.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla inaugurated the festival on 21st while he also graced the closing ceremony held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theater in Hapta Kangjeibung. Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony, the Governor said that the Manipur Sangai Festival concluded on a note of unity and cultural pride despite the challenges faced. He said this edition of the festival served as an important outreach platform, bringing together tourism stakeholders from across the country and abroad. The Governor said:
