When we think of winter tourism in Ladakh, first and foremost come Chader Trek in the mind of many of us. Chader Trek is a grand walk on ice sheet as well as a challenging walk on the bank of the frozen Zangkar River of Ladakh. The once frozen Zanskar River used to be the only gateway for Zanskar Sub Division to connect with Leh and the rest of the world is now a popular tourist itinerary visiting Ladakh. District administration in collaboration with the Tourism Department, Leh and the stakeholders have started the preparation for the upcoming Chader Trek.

Chader Trek, a trek on an ice sheet on the frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh is famous for adventure lovers to test their endurance in extreme weather conditions. Therefore, it is also considered as one of the toughest winter Trek in the country as it is conducted in the extreme cold weather conditions coupled with low levels of oxygen. Due to the challenging task of arrangement which involved in organising it logically and strategically, Administration is joined the tourism stakeholders to ensure exhilarating and rewarding travel experiences for the trekkers with safety. District Administration Leh convened a joint meeting of the line departments and stakeholders to finalize arrangements for the upcoming and much awaited Chader Trek. As per the decision of the joint meeting, the date of commencement of the Chader Trek will be announced soon on the recommendations of recce team . The exercise of recce is to be conducted on January 10 to study about the complete formation of Ice Sheets on the routes of Zangskar River. This year National Disaster Reforce Force and Union Territory Disaster Response Force will join the administration in rescue operations during the emergencies. The joint meeting held yesterday has finalised the logistics preparation such as use of satellite phone in medical evacuation from remote areas of trek routes and deployment of medical team and ambulance for any medical emergencies. For the smooth movement of trekkers along the route, Border Road Organisation and UTDRF have agreed to draft a coordination mechanism. Yangchan Dolma for Parikarma from Leh Ladakh.

“सहरसा और सुपौल जिले में कोसी तटबंध के भीतर जल-जमाव वाले क्षेत्रों में किसानों ने पारंपरिक खेती की जगह पानी फल, सिंघाड़े का विकल्प चुना है। इससे कम निवेश में किसानों को अच्छा फायदा होने लगा है। स्थानीय किसान मोहम्मद आलम बताते हैं कि उनके पिता ने इस क्षेत्र में पहली बार सिंघाड़े की खेती शुरू की और अब कई किसान इसकी खेती करने लगे हैं।
सुपौल जिले के वीरपुर से सहरसा के सलखुआ प्रखंड तक विस्तारित पूर्वी कोसी तटबंध ठंड के मौसम में सिंघाड़े की खेती के प्रमुख केन्द्र के रूप में उभरा है। स्थानीय किसान अमित कुमार बताते हैं कि उन्हें लागत का दोगुना तक फायदा मिल रहा है।
सहरसा के जिला उद्यान पदाधिकारी शैलेन्द्र कुमार ने बताया कि सरकार जल-जमाव वाले क्षेत्रों में मखाना के बाद पानी फल सिंघाड़े की खेती के लिए किसानों को प्रोत्साहित कर रही है।
पानी फल सिंघाड़ा सर्दियों का सुपर फूड माना जाता है, जो पोषक तत्वों से भरपूर होता है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि सरकार के प्रोत्साहन से यह क्षेत्र मखाना उत्पादन के बाद सिंघाड़ा उत्पादन के क्षेत्र में एक सफल मॉडल बन कर उभरेगा। परिक्रमा के लिए पटना से मैं अभिषेक दास।”

The Grand International Exposition of the sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha in New Delhi has been opened for public today. The six-month long exposition brings together, for the first time, the relics repatriated after more than a century with authentic relics and archaeological materials from Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh. Titled – The Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One, it highlights India’s deep and continuing civilizational link with the teachings of Lord Buddha.
The expo was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month. Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Director General of the National Museum and Ministry of Culture Joint Secretary Gurmeet Singh Chawla said that this repatriation reflects the renewed relevance of Buddhist philosophy as a guiding force for peace and integrated national development. He informed that it reunites the sacred relic jewels of Lord Buddha taken away during the colonial era with the Piprahwa relics and jewels preserved at the National Museum in New Delhi, and the Indian Museum in Kolkata. He remarked that this initiative is a part of the government’s sustained efforts to recover and safeguard the nation’s cultural legacy.
Mr Chawla further highlighted that the exhibition will remain open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to enable more people to visit and gain a deeper understanding of the relics. NEHA GOSWAMI, AKASHVANI NEWS, PARIKRAMA.

Benchmark domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, ended in the red after a choppy trading session. Both indices opened lower and made an attempt to rebound but failed to sustain the momentum. However, in the last hour of trade, the indices staged a modest recovery, paring some of their earlier losses. The Sensex fell 102 points to close at 84 thousand and 961, while the Nifty declined 38 points to settle at 26 thousand and 141.
In the Forex market, the rupee today appreciated by 29 paise to trade at 89 rupees and 88 paise against US dollar, a short while ago.
In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading 0.9 per cent down at 60 US dollars and 17 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was trading almost 1.3 per cent lower at 56 US dollars and 41 cents per barrel in intra-day trade.
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading down at 1,38,680 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading down at 2,54,690 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

Bimal Roy passed away on this day in 1966. He was an Indian film director. He is particularly noted for his realistic and socialistic films such as Do Bigha Zamin, Parineeta, Biraj Bahu, Devdas, Madhumati, Sujata, Parakh and Bandini, making him an important director of Hindi cinema. Inspired by Italian neo-realistic cinema, he made Do Bigha Zamin after watching Vittorio De Sica’s Bicycle Thieves (1948) His work is particularly known for his mise en scène which he employed to portray realism. He won a number of awards throughout his career, including eleven Filmfare Awards, two National Film Awards, and the International Prize of the Cannes Film Festival. Madhumati won 9 Filmfare Awards in 1958, a record held for 37 years.

In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour. In 2021, he was posthumously awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.

He acted in a few Film and Television Institute of India student films such as Reconnaissance (1990), directed by Sandeep Chattopadhyay.
