Nishagandhi Open Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram is all set for the inauguration of the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala. Although the formal ceremony is scheduled for 6 this evening, film screenings began this morning. This year’s festival will feature 206 films from 82 countries across 26 categories, screened in 16 theatres across the city. Eleven films are lined up for screening today, several of which have already been shown. The World Cinema section opened with Emmanuel Finkiel’s Mariana’s Room at Kairali Theatre. Screenings in the competition category will begin tomorrow. With its diverse lineup and strong global representation, the 30th IFFK promises an immersive and vibrant week of cinema in the State capital. A large number of film lovers from within Kerala and outside the state have arrived in Thiruvananthapuram for the festival. Let’s listen to Cartoon Academy Chairman Sudheernath, who travels from Delhi every year to be part of this celebration of films.

नई दिल्ली में लिपि और पांडुलिपि संरक्षण पर आयोजित एक विशेष कार्यशाला में अरुणाचल प्रदेश प्रतिनिधिमंडल द्वारा प्रस्तुत क्षेत्र प्रलेखन में अरुणाचल प्रदेश के पांच जिलों में महाभारत और रामायण के प्रसंगों वाले ग्रंथों सहित दुर्लभ पांडुलिपियों और पारंपरिक लिपियों की खोज का खुलासा हुआ।
A delegation from Arunachal Pradesh—comprising Mamta Riba, Secretary (Art & Culture & Civil Aviation), Lt Col T.C. Tayum, OSD (Research) & Nodal Officer, Gyan Bharatam Mission, and Shri Manyu, Assistant Director, Department of Art & Culture—attended a special Workshop on Script and Manuscript Preservation during the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH 20COM) in New Delhi, Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. During the meeting, Secretary Mamta Riba highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s extraordinary manuscript traditions, including the Lik-Thai manuscripts of Namsai district, the ancient Buddhist Kangyur scriptures, and other rare Buddhist and indigenous manuscripts. A detailed presentation on the Gyan Bharatam Mission was delivered by Lt Col T.C. Tayum, showcasing extensive field documentation carried out in Tawang, West Kameng, Shi-Yomi, Upper Siang, and Namsai districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The presentation revealed the discovery of rare manuscripts and traditional scripts, including texts containing episodes from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana—a significant indication of deep historical and literary interlinkages among the communities of Arunachal Pradesh. The presentation underscored the urgent risks and need for preservation. Responding to the presentation, chairing the meeting, Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture announced that a Central Expert Team will soon visit all five districts to begin scientific documentation, digitisation, and conservation of manuscripts. He also informed that a Dedicated Manuscript and Digitisation Support Cell for Arunachal Pradesh will be established at the Ministry to ensure coordinated and long-term assistance to the State. The Government of Arunachal Pradesh expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s assurances and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the State’s rich manuscript and script heritage under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, envisioned to become a major contributor to the national digital repository. In Ladakh, in line with the National Education Policy 2020, the School Education Department of the Union Territory of Ladakh is undertaking a series of reforms to strengthen the quality of education in Government-run schools. As part of these ongoing measures, an Independent Assessment was successfully conducted across Leh and Kargil districts to evaluate student learning outcomes.
The assessment covered students of Classes 1 to 7 and Class 9, with nearly eleven thousand students appearing in the MCQ-based examination. The initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring competency-based learning as envisioned under NEP–2020. For the first time, OMR-based answer sheets were introduced to promote transparency, faster evaluation and data-driven decision-making. Question papers were framed in strict alignment with the prescribed learning outcomes, reflecting NEP’s emphasis on foundational literacy, numeracy and conceptual clarity. The examination was held simultaneously across all education blocks. Duty Magistrates, Centre Superintendents and Invigilators supervised the process, while CCTV cameras installed in most centres ensured robust monitoring. Officials of the School Education Department stated that such assessments will help identify learning gaps, improve teaching practices and strengthen classroom delivery. The data generated will guide targeted academic interventions and capacity-building programmes for teachers. The Independent Assessment is part of a broader set of initiatives being undertaken by the UT Administration, including teacher training, digital learning promotion, curriculum alignment and improved monitoring systems—aimed at transforming Government schools into vibrant, NEP-compliant learning spaces in Ladakh. Benchmark domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, closed over half a per cent higher for the second straight session today. Both the indices opened on a strong note amid positive global cues and rising optimism that an India-US trade deal may be finalised soon. Sentiment remained upbeat throughout the day, driving the indices upward. The Sensex surged 450 points, to close at 85 thousand 268, while the Nifty added 148 points, to settle at 26 thousand and 47.
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading up at 1,34,520 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was trading up at 1,99,120 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

Dr Maithilisharan Gupt
Dr Maithilisharan Gupt (3August 1886 – 12 December 1964) Today is the death anniversary of the national poet and Padma Bhushan awardee, Maithili Sharan Gupt. One of the most important modern Hindi poets. He is considered one among the pioneers of KhariBoli (plain dialect) poetry and wrote in Khari Boli dialect, at a time whenmost Hindi poets favoured the use of Braj Bhasha dialect.Known as ‘Dadda’ in literary circles, his notable work, especially’Bharat-Bharati’ (1912), made a lasting impact during the independence movement. Recognizing his immense contribution, Mahatma Gandhi honoured him with the title ‘Rashtrakavi. Rashtrakavi Maithili Sharan Gupt has left behind a legacy of priceless literature, and his brilliant work is still remembered by the masses.

आज ही के दिन ब्रज के निवासी एक साहित्यकार, नाटककार और संस्कृत के उच्च कोटि के विद्वान राधाचरण गोस्वामी जी ने इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा था। गोस्वामी जी ने ब्रज भाषा का समर्थन किया। उन्होंने मौलिक नाटकों की रचना की और बांग्ला भाषा की अनेक पुस्तकों का हिंदी में अनुवाद किया। उनकी महत्त्वपूर्ण रचनाओं में ‘सती चंद्रावती’, ‘अमर सिंह राठौर’, ‘सुदामा’, और ‘तन मन धन श्री गोसाई जी को अर्पण’ शामिल है।
गोस्वामी जी ने समस्या प्रधान मौलिक उपन्यास लिखे। ‘बाल विधवा’ (1883-84 ई.), ‘सर्वनाश’ (1883-84 ई.), ‘अलकचन्द’ (अपूर्ण 1884-85 ई.) ‘विधवा विपत्ति’ (1888 ई.) ‘जावित्र’ (1888 ई.) आदि।

Ramanand Sagar (born Chandramauli Chopra; 29 December 1917 – 12 December 2005)
He is best known for his contribution to the television serials Ramayan (1987–1988), Luv Kush (1988–1989) and Shri Krishna (1993–1999), which broke several viewership records globally, which united the nation spiritually and culturally, making him a timeless icon whose work remains a cornerstone of Indian entertainment, leaving an indelible legacy in cinema and television. iconic 1987 Ramayan TV series was created, written, and directed by Ramanand Sagar himself, adapting the ancient Indian epic for television, with music by Ravindra Jain and narration by Ashok Kumar. While Ramanand Sagar wrote the screenplay and dialogue. The Indian film-television director, producer, and writer, started his film career as a clapper boy in a silent film. In the1940s, Sagar started out as an assistant stage manager in Prithvi Theatres of Prithviraj Kapoor. He also directed a few plays under the fatherly guidance of Kapoor. Along with other films that Sagar himself directed, he wrote the story and screenplay for Raj Kapoor’s superhit Barsaat.
He even wrote Shammi Kapoor and Sadhana starrer Rajkumar (1964) for a South Indian banner. A song from ‘Rajkumar ‘He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2000.

सोकर जानकी (अंग्रेज़ी: Sowcar Janaki, जन्म- 12 दिसम्बर, 1931)
आज जन्मदिन है भारतीय फ़िल्म अभिनेत्री सोकर जानकी का। शावुकारू जानकी के रूप में लोकप्रिय इस अभिनेत्री ने 450 से अधिक फिल्मों में काम किया है। मुख्य रूप से वह तमिल, तेलुगु और कन्नड़ भाषाओं में दिखाई दी हैं। उन्होंने 3000 से अधिक शो में मंच पर प्रदर्शन किया है। अपने शुरुआती वर्षों के दौरान सोकर जानकी रेडियो कलाकार थीं, वो 14 साल की उम्र से आकाशवाणी मद्रास में एक प्रमुख रेडियो कलाकार रही हैं। वह दो ‘नंदी पुरस्कार’ और भारत के चौथे सर्वोच्च नागरिक पुरस्कार पद्म श्री से सम्मानित हो चुकी हैं।

Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth has been a superstar in the Tamil movie industry since the 70s. He is one of the highest earning actors in Asia. Primarily starring in Tamil movies, he has also worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Hollywood movies. He was born in Bangalore (India), and was employed as a bus conductor before he joined the Madras Film Institute. He made his debut in Katha Sangama (1976) and became a star with Apoorva Raagangal (1975) . His unique acting style is characterized by trademark gestures such as flipping a cigarette in the air and catching it with his mouth. He played varied roles successfully and is considered as an actor who can easily perform action, drama, and comedy.

भारत के महान क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी युवराज सिंह आज अपना जन्मदिन मना रहे हैं। इन्होंने टी-ट्वेंटी विश्व कप 2007 में इंग्लैंड के ख़िलाफ़ 6 गेंदों में 6 छक्के लगाये थे और टी-ट्वेंटी में 12 गेंदों में अर्धशतक बनाने का विश्व रिकॉर्ड भी इनके नाम है। एशिया में आयोजित विश्व कप 2011 को भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम ने जीता, इसमें अहम भूमिका निभाने वाले युवराज सिंह को ‘मैन ऑफ़ द टूर्नामेंट’ चुना गया। इन्हें सन 2014 में “पद्मश्री” पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया गया।
