Pan-India band performances on the theme ‘Vande Mataram’ are being organised by the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and other CAPFs. As part of these celebrations the Indian Air Force (IAF) Band, comprising 31 musicians, performed at the amphitheatre in Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi yesterday. The 45 minute performance included brass, reed, string and electronic instruments fused into eleven captivating tunes. Renditions of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the song ‘Sindoor’, composed to commemorate the actions of the Indian Armed Forces during Op Sindoor, were the highlights of the performance.

Air Commander of Directorate of Ceremonies, Imran Zaini today said the Indian Air Force, IAF will be leading this year’s Republic Day parade among the defence forces. Briefing media in New Delhi, Air Commander Zaini informed that the IAF homage ceremony will be led by Squadron Leader Hemant Singh Kanyar in this year’s Republic Day parade. He said the marching contingent will comprise four officers alongwith 144 air warriors. He added that a 75-member air force band performance will also be held including 66 Agniveers with nine women Agniveers performing for the first time. Air Commander Zaini further said that 121 musicians from the Air force will participate in the beating retreat ceremony on the 29th of this month.
Talking about the veteran’s tableau, Group Captain Dharmendra Singh informed that a two- tier tableau will display this year’s theme of Sangram se Rashtranirman tak of the Indian defence forces. He said the tableaux will showcase the selfless service of the forces in nation building and security. Speaking about the music band, Director of Music of the Air Force, L S Rupachandra said that this year’s band performance is dedicated to 150 years of Vande Mataram and women empowerment, blending pride with enthusiasm.
The ‘Vande Mataram’ performance venues will also include the ancestral home and birthplace of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay at Kanthalpara, Naihati, North 24 Parganas District, West Bengal, presently known as ‘Bankim Bhawan Gaveshana Kendra’.

“The Ministry of Culture’s Republic Day tableau for 2026 gives this long and layered journey a powerful visual form. The moving tractor carries the original manuscript of Vande Mataram, followed by folk artists drawn from the four directions of India, embodying the country’s cultural plurality. At the centre of the tableau stands the present generation, represented by Gen – Z, who renders Vande Mataram inspired by the historic rendition of Vishnupant Pagnis. His recording of the song in Raga Sarang, achieved by altering the sequence of verses to circumvent colonial censorship, became a significant example of artistic resistance during the freedom movement.
Informing on the theme, Ministry of Culture has remarked that India’s Republic Day tableaux are far more than ceremonial displays; they function as moving archives of the nation’s civilisational memory. Vivek Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, noted that once spoken on the lips of revolutionaries and sung in prisons, meetings, and processions, Vande Mataram is far more than a song. Sri Aurobindo perceived in it a spiritual potency capable of awakening collective consciousness—a vision that history has since affirmed. Composed in 1875 by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay, the song envisioned the nation as Mother—sujalam, suphalam—abundant in nature, nurture, and inner strength. During the colonial period, it restored dignity and self-belief, transforming devotion into courage and poetry into resolve, and uniting Indians across regions, languages, and faiths in a shared aspiration for freedom. As India celebrates Republic Day 2026, Vande Mataram calls upon the nation not only to remember freedom, but to remain worthy of it. Through this presentation, the Ministry of Culture seeks to reaffirm the national song as a symbol of India’s unity, cultural depth, and enduring spirit—connecting the memory of the freedom struggle with the responsibilities of the present and the aspirations of the future. National School of Drama (NSD) has announced that the 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahaotsav (BRM) -International Theatre Festival of India will be held from 27th of this month in Delhi and other cities of India. The theme of this year’s festival is Samvaad, Sanskritiyon ka. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Director of National School of Drama Chittaranjan Tripathy said that BRM will showcase a rich spectrum of performing arts including dance-drama form of theatre, puppet theatre and traditional theatre forms. He further said that special segments such as Adi Rang Mahotsav, Jashn-e – Bachpan and Bal Rang Mahotsav will be the key highlights of the festival. Mr Tripathy noted that this mahotsav is the world’s largest theatre festival, reaffirming India’s role as vibrant hub of global theatre and performing arts.
The NSD Director also highlighted that this year’s festival will feature plays directed by 33 women directors. People from various sections of society including specially-abled persons, transgender community and local theatre groups will also perform in BRM. He added that at least one country from each continent will participate in the festival.

“The first gold medals of Khelo India Winter Games 2026 were decided at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium here on Wednesday. Of the four decided, all in figure skating, Haryana bagged two gold medals while Uttarakhand and Kerala bagged one each. Haryana are on top of the standing with five medals overall, including 1 silver and two bronze.
Figure skating made its debut in the Ladakh leg of the Khelo India Winter Games 2026. An Olympic event known for its grace and poise, 20 figure skaters from five states and two Union Territories took part in two categories – novice free skating and advanced short programme. The first gold was won by Hiya Adlakha of Haryana while Stanzin Khando and Tenzin Kunzin, both from Ladakh, won silver and bronze. The Khelo India Winter Games is being conducted by the Youth Services and Sports department of Ladakh in association with the Sports Authority of India. Ice hockey, Ladakh’s favorite sport, continued to draw huge and vociferous crowds.
On the Second Day, Ice Hockey Matches were played at NDS Ice Hockey Rink and Ladakh Scouts Regimental Center drew a massive audience to witness the games. In Men’s Category of Ice Hockey Competition held at NDS Stadium, UT Ladakh took on ITBP Team and won by 3-1 while Chandigarh beat Jammu Kashmir by 5-2.
