The 100-day TB elimination campaign by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has detected over five lakh tuberculosis (TB) patients across the country. In the 455 districts involved in the campaign, more than 3.57 lakh TB patients have been diagnosed. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that over 10 crore vulnerable individuals have been screened for the disease.
Under the campaign, 10 lakh Ni-kshay Shivirs have helped bring modern TB diagnostic tools closer to people’s homes. Further, 836 Ni-kshay Vahans have been deployed to extend the reach of TB services, to ensure coverage in the most remote areas. Since the launch of the campaign, over 2.4 lakh Ni-kshay Mitras have also registered through Ni-kshay Shapaths, which encourages individuals, and community leaders, among others to support TB patients with nutritional baskets, psychosocial and vocational support.

Researchers at Periyar University, Salem have patented technologies to produce Hydroxyapatite from eggshells. The mineral can be used for bone grafts, coatings for dental and orthopaedic implants and scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. The research team at the University has patented two technologies for commercial production of hydroxyapatite calcium phosphate mineral found in bones and teeth from egg shells. The material has been tested on more than 450 patients. It could be one fifth the cost of current imported bone grafts. One of the patented technologies to convert eggshells involving a solution containing ground egg shells and phosphate in a microwave reactor.

The Consultative meeting is called by NIMHANS to evolve measures to address the mental health challenges, including stress, anxiety, depression and suicide among students. The stakeholders will come together to converge on potential approaches to strengthen student support systems in educational campuses. A multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals from the Department of Clinical Psychology of NIMHANS, educational leaders, administrative heads from schools, pre university, colleges and universities, government representatives and mental health professionals will engage in a comprehensive discussion about the project, its key components and practical strategies for implementing them across educational campuses using a structured multi pronged approach. The goal is to generate a dialogue on enhancing student mental health support systems and also evolve insights on scaling up this initiative throughout the state through collaborations and capacity building.

In Telangana, rescue activities are underway in full swing to evacuate eight stranded persons from the Tunnel of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC). Eight persons were stranded inside the tunnel when a part of roof of the tunnel collapsed near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district yesterday morning. State Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and Tourism Minister J Krishna Rao overseeing the rescue operations at the site. The ministers expressed hope that the stranded persons will be brought out safely today. The rescue teams from the disaster management and the Singareni Coal Collieries are already at the site and making all out efforts to bring them to safety.
