Budget session of Puducherry assembly begins today with Lt Governor’s address

The Budget Session of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly commenced today with a customary address by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan. In his address, the Lt. Governor emphasized the government’s efforts to accelerate the socio-economic development of the Union Territory, aiming to transform Puducherry into a Business, Education, Spiritual, and Tourist hub.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, he stated that Puducherry’s Gross State Domestic Product has grown by 44.06 percent over the last five years, with an annual average growth rate of 9.56 percent. Following the motion of thanks to the Lt. Governor’s address, the Assembly was adjourned for the day. A business advisory committee meeting was held under the leadership of Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam. The House will reconvene tomorrow to debate the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who holds the finance portfolio, will present the Union Territory’s budget for Rs 13,600 crore on March 12.
The Speaker announced that the Budget Session will continue for 13 days, concluding on March 27. The discussion on the budget will take place on March 13, followed by a three-day recess. The Assembly will reconvene on March 17 and continue until March 21. After a weekend break, the session will resume from March 24 to end on 27.
