Both the Houses of Parliament today continued to witness disruption on Manipur violence and other issues. The Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have been adjourned till 2 PM.
In the Rajya Sabha, when the House met for the day, opposition members reiterated their demand for discussion on the Manipur issue. Treasury bench members raised slogans demanding discussion on atrocities against women in Rajasthan. Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal said, the government is ready for discussion on the Manipur issue from the very first day. He alleged that the opposition is running away from debate saying they do not want discussion as it will expose them. He condemned the opposition’s approach in the House. As pandemonium continued, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House till 2 PM.
In the Lok Sabha, when the House met after first adjournment at 12 noon, members from Congress, DMK, JD(U) and others trooped into the well, raising slogans on the Manipur violence issue. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, while citing a media report, raised the issue of funding from abroad of a media portal alleging that the portal is working against the interest of the country. He also alleged that Congress received funds from China. Treasury bench members also raised slogans. As ruckus prevailed, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House till 2 PM. Earlier, when the House met for the day, opposition parties’ created a noisy scene on Manipur and other issues. Treasury members also raised slogans. Amid ruckus, Speaker Om Birla appealed to the protesting members to allow the House to function but they did not pay heed. He tried to run the Question Hour but in vain. Later, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 noon.
