BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan Faces Congress’s Pratap Bhanu Sharma in Vidisha Lok Sabha Contest

In our series, covering profiles of key constituencies across States and Union Territories during the Lok Sabha elections, today we bring you a report on the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency of Madhya Pradesh. More from our correspondent:

 

Akashwani correspondent reports that Vidisha Lok Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh has always been in discussion. The Stupas of Sanchi, located in the Vidisha parliamentary constituency, are historically and spiritually recognised in many countries of the world. Vidisha has also been considered a safe seat for the BJP. Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also represented Vidisha. A total of 13 candidates are in the fray in Vidisha. However, the main contest is between BJP candidate and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Congress’s Pratap Bhanu Sharma. There are more than 19 lakh 38 thousand voters in Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency. Among these, more than 10 lakh male voters and more than nine lakh 34 thousand are female voters. Vidisha Lok Sabha seat consists of eight Assembly constituencies. Of these, seven are with BJP and one with Congress. In the 2019 election, BJP’s Ramakant Bhargava defeated Congress’s Shailendra Patel by a huge margin of about five lakh votes.
