The BJP led government developed an industrial ecosystem for fast pace growth of north east region and undertook several bold initiatives for the entire north east, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jorhat on Saturday. While addressing a public meeting at Meleng Meteli Pothar, after unveiling the 84 feet statue of legendary Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan at Hollonga Pathar in Jorhat, the Prime Minister said that the development of Northeastern region is important for development of rest of India.

Mr. Modi said that the BJP government only listens to the poor section of the society and today he is happy to join the celebration of Griha Prabesh for over 5 lakh 50 thousand houses constructed under PMAY-G in the State.

The Prime Minister said that he is astounded by the breathtaking beauty, landscape, diverse flora and fauna of UNESCO World Heritage site Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. PM also urged people to visit the National Park to experience the unparalleled beauty and warmth of the people of the state. He also said that Kaziranga is a heaven for the birdwatchers.

Mr. Modi slammed the previous governments for neglecting this region and said during the last 10 years his government is working for the growth of this area in every sector. Assam would turn into a centre of healthcare hub for the northeastern states, added the PM.

On the second day of his tour to the State, the PM inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones of several projects worth Rupees 17 thousand 500 crores virtually from Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat. Mr. Modi inaugurated the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital, a Child Care Unit at B. Baruah Cancer Institute, Guwahati; Barauni to Guwahati natural gas pipe line and two crude oil pumping stations of Oil India Limited.
The Prime Minister virtually laid foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College and Hospital and Digboi Refinery expansion projects including IOCL’s Bethkuchi Terminal in Guwahati and dedicated to the nation doubling of railway lines from Dhupdhara to Chaygaon and New Bongaigaon to Sarbhog.
In addition, Mr. Modi also virtually performed the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for over 5 lakh 50 thousand homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Grameen.

Earlier in the day, after staying overnight at Assam Police Guest House at Kohora range in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, PM undertook a jeep and elephant safari inside the park and also witnessed a line-up of draught elephants before leaving for Arunachal Pradesh to attend the Viksit Bharat Viksit Northeast programme. After the public meeting, PM left for Siliguri in West Bengal.
