BJP delegation meets Lokayukta with request to investigate spate of maternal, infant deaths in Karnataka govt hospitals

A BJP delegation met Lokayukta Justice B. S. Patil with a request to investigate the spate of maternal and infant deaths in government hospitals in Karnataka. The BJP state president B. Y. Vijayendra has sought the resignation of Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao for his alleged failure in containing these deaths of mothers and children in the hospitals. The BJP has pointed out that in the last 10 months, there were 111 deaths of infants and 28 maternal deaths in the last eight months. Addressing the media in Bengaluru today, Health Minister Gundu Rao said that four maternal deaths were reported last month and one this month at Ballari Medical College and Research Centre. A medical audit has been ordered to find out the cause of the deaths. On BJP approaching Lokayukta, Dinesh Gundu Rao said that if the issue can be resolved and deaths can be stopped, he is ready to resign.
