BJP criticizes Karnataka Congress govt over Tungabhadra reservoir crest gate collapse

The BJP in Karnataka has criticised the Congress Government for the crest gate number 19 collapse in the Tungabhadra reservoir. The Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka criticised the Water resources minister and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar for neglecting his department. Speaking to media persons today in Bengaluru Ashoka said that the minister has no time to run his department as he is busy working for the Congress High Command. He charged that the department had ample time to repair the dam when it was empty. He noted that discharge of water in the reservoir is shocking as the farmers happy with good storage level will be deprived of water when the crops sown by them will not get sufficient water. Meanwhile, Minister D K Shivakumar who inspected the dam today has assured that the crest gate will be repaired in the next four or five days. He said Telangana and Andhra Pradesh authorities were updated about the discharge of water. He also added that there is no threat to the standing crop as an inflow of around 50 to 60 TMC was projected in the months of October and September. After one of the crest gates collapsed all the 33 crest gates were opened. The dam was holding around 100 TMC water when one of the crest gates collapsed.
