West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar today said that atrocities against women have increased in the State. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Mr Majumdar condemned the incident in Manipur and said similar crimes are happening in West Bengal. He said, the panchayat elections in the State were nothing but a shameful phase of violence and atrocities against women. Mr. Majumdar said, in 2011, while taking over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had assured the people that the violence would stop, but nothing has changed, and violence has increased even more.
BJP MP Locket Chatterjee broke down during the press conference while recounting the alleged sexual assault incident of a BJP candidate during the panchayat election on July 8.
