In Bihar, incessant rainfall has lashed many parts, with heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded in Siwan, Gopalganj, Banka, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Nawada, and Katihar districts. The Met Department has issued an orange and yellow alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for the next 24 hours in the northwestern, northcentral, and southern parts of the state. Four people lost their lives due to lightning in the past 24 hours in Darbhanga, Nawada, Bhagalpur, and East Champaran districts.
Due to continuous rainfall in catchment areas of rivers, the water level of prominent rivers like Ganga, Gandak, and Bagmati is rising rapidly in Patna, Motihari, Gopalganj, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, and Muzaffarpur. Bagmati is flowing above the danger mark in Belwa, Dubbaghat, and Muzaffarpur, inundating low-line areas in several parts. Nepal-originating rivers are also showing a rising trend in northern and eastern Bihar. Rising water levels in the Kamala Balan, Mahananda, and Parman rivers have caused flood-like situations in low-line and embankment areas of Madhubani, Araria, Kishanganj, and Purnea districts.
