In Bihar, one Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was killed and several others injured during the Vidhan Sabha March when the clashes broke out between policemen and party workers this afternoon in Patna.
Confirming this, Union Minister of Home for State Nityanand Rai said party workers were protesting silently but police lathi-charged brutally. Mr Rai visited Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) to console the deceased worker's family. The Union Minister also met injured workers of the party in hospital.
Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi informed in a tweet that the deceased Vijay Kumar Singh was the General Secretary of the Jehanabad party unit.
The police stopped the agitating BJP members from further advancing towards Vidhan Sabha led by BJP State President Samrat Choudhary and resorted to lathi charges to disperse the crowd. Meanwhile, officials said some police personnel also got wounded during the scuffle. The Monsoon session of Bihar Legislature is underway and prohibitory orders are in force around the nearby area.
Besides Union Ministers Nityanand Rai and Ashwini Kumar Choubey, several Party MLAs and MPs also participated in the march. BJP is holding a protest march over the issue of 10 Lakh government jobs promised by Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Prasad Yadav and other demands. The party has demanded resignation from Mr Yadav following his name came up in a chargesheet filed by CBI in land for job scam. The issue of the fixed salary teachers who have been told to sit in the BPSC examination has also been taken up by the BJP. The March started this afternoon from Patna Gandhi Maidan.
Meanwhile, the Patna Administration has denied that the BJP party worker had any injuries mark on his body.
