In Cricket, India delivered a resounding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Perth, Australia. This emphatic win marks one of India’s largest Test triumphs and the first-ever test win of a visiting team at the new Perth Stadium.
Key performances by Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who each claimed three crucial wickets, ensured Australia’s second-innings collapse. On the batting front, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stellar knock of 161 powered India to set a daunting target of 534 runs for the hosts.
For Australia, Travis Head was the star player as he scored 89 runs. Apart from him, Mitchell Marsh scored 47 while Alex Carey scored 36.
Earlier, starting their second innings on the final day, Australia were bundled out for 238, falling far short of the target. Skipper Bumrah was adjudged Player of the Match.
With this commanding victory, India climbed to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings with 61.11 percentage of points, displacing Australia, who dropped to second place with 57.69 percentage of points. The win also gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The second Test is scheduled to begin on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval.
