The benchmark indices bounced back from the morning’s low to breaks a four-day losing streak in yet another volatile session today, helped by gains in banking and metal names.
The BSE Sensex gained 599 points or 0.83 percent to close at 73,088, while the Nifty-50 jumped 151 points or 0.69 percent to settle at 22,147.
In the broader market at the BSE, The BSE mid cap index was down 0.4 percent and the small cap index flat.
In the Sensex pack, 22 companies posted gains while 08 logged losses. Bajaj Finance was the top gainer as it added 3.1 percent, Manindra & Mahindra raised 2.9 percent and HDFC Bank surged 2.4 percent.
On the other hand, HCL Tech declined 1.2 percent, Nestle fell one percent and TCS slipped 0.9 percent.
In sectoral indicies at BSE, 09 sectors logged gains whereas rest the 11 sectors posted losses. Bankex sector index climbed one percent, Metal sector and Financial Services sector gained 0.8 percent each.
On the other hand, Reality sector lost 0.6 percent, Information Technology sector fell 0.5 percent and Healthcare sector ended 0.4 percent down.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was Negative as shares of 2,073 companies fell, while 1,717 gained. Shares of 113 companies remained unchanged.
