Benchmark domestic equity indices today ended marginally lower. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, slipped 67 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 78,473. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange, Nifty-50 fell slightly by 26 points, or 0.11 percent, to end at 23,728.
Meanwhile, the broader market indices at BSE ended in positive territory. The Mid-Cap index closed with a slim gain of 0.09 percent and the Small-Cap index added over 0.3 percent.
In the Sensex index, 16 out of 30 companies ended with losses. In the top laggards, PowerGrid slipped over one and a half percent, SBI Bank lost over one percent, and Titan dropped nearly one percent. Conversely, among the top gainers, Tata Motors surged over 1.9 percent, ITC added over 0.8 percent, and Nestle rose over 0.6 percent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 13 out of 20 sectors ended in negative territory. In the top laggards, Metal dipped more than 0.9 percent, Power shed 0.7 percent and Utilities lost over half percent. Meanwhile, among the top gainers, Services gained over 0.8 percent, Oil and Gas as well as FMCG, both rose almost 0.6 percent, and Auto advanced over half percent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative as shares of 2,019 declined and 1,977 companies advanced while 96 remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 39 companies hit their 52-week high while 51 hit their 52-week low.
