In Ladakh, in the run-up to a series of events of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a two-day-long motivational programme under the theme ‘Know Your Army’ has begun in Leh today. Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 to commemorate the victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. This year marks the 25th anniversary or Rajat Jayanti of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Lieutenant Governor Dr. B. D. Mishra declared the mela open at Sonam Wangchuk MVC Stadium in Leh.
In his inaugural address, Dr Mishra urged the youth of Ladakh to join the Agniveer scheme to serve the nation. He also expressed gratitude to the General Officer Commanding of 14 Corps for organising events to boost the bond between people and the army through such types of events. This programme is being organised to motivate local youth to join the army as well as familiarise the local population with the modern weapons technology, tactics, and battle-worthiness of the Indian army. During the inaugural function, army personnel presented several demonstrations, displays, and drills of defence equipment.
