Bastar Lok Sabha constituency of Chhattisgarh, polling of first phase to be held on April 19th

In the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency of Chhattisgarh, voting is scheduled to take place in the first phase on April 19th. Besides being predominantly tribal, this Lok Sabha constituency also grapples with the Maoist issue.

 

The Bastar parliamentary constituency in Chhattisgarh is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The number of voters is a little more than 14 lakh 72 thousand. The number of female voters surpasses that of males in this Lok Sabha constituency. There are approximately 7 lakh 71 thousand female voters, while male voters amount to roughly 7 lakh.
 
 
 
Comprising 8 assembly constituencies, the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency witnesses the participation of 11 candidates in the electoral race. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Mahesh Kashyap, while the Congress has nominated former minister and Sukma MLA Kawasi Lakhma. In the last  Lok Sabha election, Deepak Baij of the Congress emerged victorious from the Bastar Lok Sabha seat. The Bastar region grapples with challenges posed by Left Wing Extremism.
