The Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus, yesterday sent a letter to US President Donald Trump requesting him to postpone the application of a 37 percent US reciprocal tariff on Bangladeshi products for three months. He also proposed tariff cuts on US products including top US export items such as gas turbines, semiconductors and medical equipment in the Bangladesh market, said a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
Professor Yunus said that Bangladesh will build dedicated duty-free bonded warehouses for cotton to improve the US market. He added that they are eliminating certain testing requirements, rationalising packaging, labelling and certification requirements and undertaking trade facilitation measures such as simplifying customs procedures and standards. He assured Trump that Bangladesh will take all necessary actions to fully support your trade agenda.
A separate letter detailing the actions of Bangladesh will be sent by the Commerce Advisor of Bangladesh to the US Trade Representative soon, the statement added.
