Bangladesh: New currency notes without image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Bank (BB) is printing new currency notes without the image of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Currently, in Bangladesh, currency notes of all denominations have an image of him. According to the central bank of Bangladesh, the banknotes of Taka 20, 100, 500, and 1000 are being printed with Religious structures, Bengali traditions, and ‘graffiti’ drawn during the July uprising. 

       

The new notes are expected to be released in the market within the next six months, it said.

 

The officials concerned of the central bank and the Ministry of Finance said the image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be removed from the current notes, reports United News of Bangladesh (UNB).Initially, the design of the four notes is being changed and the design of all types of banknotes will be redesigned in phases, they said.

       

BB spokesperson and Executive Director Husneara Shikha said the matter of printing new notes has come a long way. “I hope the new notes could  be released in the market within the next six months.
