Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over its discussions with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus as no specific deadline was given for holding the national election.
Following a meeting between the BNP delegation and Yunus, BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul told media that his party is “not satisfied at all” with the interim government’s election roadmap of holding polls between December 2025 and June 2026. The BNP had made it clear that the cutoff time for polls was December, he added.
“If national elections are not held by December, the situation in the country will worsen and it will be very difficult to control the situation,” Fakhrul told reporters.
Earlier, at 12:15 pm, the BNP secretary general and seven members of the party’s standing committee met with the chief adviser at the State Guest house in Dhaka.
Fakhrul said that given the country’s current political situation and state of affairs, a quick election could lead to a resolution.
In response to a question about what BNP will do if there is no election in December, He said, “We will come before you again and discuss within the party and with our other allied parties and decide what to do.”
