In badminton, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles event at the India Open Badminton in New Delhi today. The duo edged past Malaysia’s world No. 7 pair of Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee in a thrilling match, 23-21, 19-21, 21-16. Meanwhile, ace India shuttler PV Sindhu made a winning return to the court as she defeated Chinese Taipei’s Shuo Yun Sung in straight games. Sindhu got the better of Sung in her Round of 32 clash in the women’s singles event at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.
In the men’s singles, Kiran George knocked out World No. 25 Yushi Tanaka in a hard-fought opening-round match of the BWF Super 750 tournament. George emerged victorious after a thrilling contest, winning 21-19, 14-21, and 27-25 in an hour and 11 minutes.
In the mixed doubles event, the Indian duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the second round with a come-from-behind win over the South Korean pair of Yin-Hui Hsu and Cheng Kuan Chen of Chinese Taipei. After losing the first game 8-21, they rallied to secure the next two games 21-19 and 21-17 in a 51-minute encounter. Meanwhile, former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth withdrew from the tournament.
