In Badminton, India’s Lakshya Sen has stormed into the Men’s Singles quarterfinals of the All England Open Championships in Birmingham. Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sen defeated Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in the pre-quarter-finals 24-22, 11-21, 21-14 in a hard-fought match. World Number 18 Sen will face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in the quarter-finals tonight.

However, two-time Olympic medallist, PV Sindhu bowed out of the competition yesterday following a 19-21, 11-21 loss to world number one An Se Young of South Korea in the Round of 16.

 

In Men’s Doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy lost to Indonesian duo B Maulana and MS Fikri 16-21, 15-21 in the pre-quarterfinal. In another Round of 16 fixture last evening, the Women’s Doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost to Zheng Yu and Zhang Shuxian of China 21-11, 11-21, 11-21.
