Badminton: Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa-Gayatri achieve career-best world ranking of 11

In Badminton, Indian women’s doubles pair, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, achieved their career-best world ranking of 11 in the latest BWF World Rankings, released yesterday. The pair had a decent outing at the BWF World Tour Finals, defeating higher-ranking Pearly Tan and Thinnah Muralitharan of Malaysia and came close to stunning World No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China.

The only Indian shuttlers in the world’s top 10 across categories, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are currently ranked ninth in the world after a relatively inactive season. They have not played much since their quarterfinal exit from the 2024 Paris Olympics due to Satwik’s injury.

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen remains the best Indian male shuttler with a world ranking of 12, while no other Indian is ranked in the top 25. In women’s singles, PV Sindhu jumped one place to become world number 15 after her exploits at the Syed Modi India International, last month.
