In tennis, this year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open 2025, will officially kick off tomorrow in Melbourne. India will be well represented at the 2025 Australian Open. Sumit Nagal will play in the first round against Czechia’s Tomas Machac at 7:50 tomorrow morning. Rithvik Bollipalli will be making his Grand Slam debut in Melbourne. He will be joined by seasoned players Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri, and Sriram Balaji. Rohan Bopanna returns to Melbourne looking to defend his men’s doubles title from the 2024 Australian Open.
In men’s singles, defending champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, ten-time tournament champion Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev are all expected to challenge for the grand slam title. In the women’s draw, the competition is expected to be equally fierce. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 2 Iga Swiatek are among the top contenders vying for the title.
The first four rounds of the Australian Open will take place between the 12th and 20th of January, with the quarter-finals taking place on the 21st and 22nd of January. The women’s singles semi-finals and final will take place on the 23rd and 25th of January, while the men’s singles are scheduled on the 24th and 26th of January. The total prize money on offer at the Australian Open is $59.8 million, a 12 percent increase from last year. The Grand Slam will conclude on the 26th of this month.
