At least 10 people were killed and eight injured in a massive blast at an illegal firecracker factory in Dutta pukur of North 24 Pargana District in West Bengal today. The explosion occurred around 10 a.m. The roof of the building was completely blown away, and charred bodies of the victims landed on roads 50 to 100 meters away. Five to six houses around the explosion site were also damaged. The injured, out of whom three were children, have been admitted to Barasat Hospital.
Leaders of several political parties have demanded NIA probe into the incident. District Magistrate Sharad Kumar Dwivedi has said that those who were involved in the illegal firecracker business would be punished.
